Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Amazing campsite, exceeded our expectations. The scenery was beautiful with rolling green countryside hills. Masses of space between the pitches, small but clean facilities. Would recommend and will definitely be going back soon.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The farm itself situated off the main road & the pitch into the bottom field well away from noisy traffic. Basic utilities, shower, toilet, drinking water & toilet waste. Also a small hut to charge your phone if needed. No electric hookup or lightning, which was ideal for myself, like going back in time of the old ways of camping. Friendly & a happy place to stay. In the evening or at dusk, nature comes alive. Definitely go back again.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Field was peacefull, toilet and shower were clean and had a phone charging point if you didnt mind leaving it.

Disliked: Entrance needed a better sign. Very bumpy steep uneven farmer entrance, i was in T4 a larger van may struggle, very steep drive down to a flat bit of grass, only grass , no electricity , bit pricey just to park on a field but not much in the area

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Unfair review for a one night stay. You booked a non-electric grass pitch and you knew the cost, how can this be a dislike? We're 10 minutes from the Jurassic coast, you say there's not much in the area, your opinion is different to most people. The only time large vans struggle getting out of the field is if they are bad drivers or the field is really wet.

We will be back!

Local attractions

It’s a very fine part of the world, the Jurassic Coast – and guests at Penn Farm will be close to one of its huge draws, the fossil hunting mecca of Charmouth, just under 10 minutes’ drive from the site. Chesil beach (half an hour) and Durdle Door (an hour) are both worth exploring too, and of course there are some stunning walks to be had along the coast path pretty much wherever you choose. Telly fans might already recognise the backdrop of West Bay (15 minutes) if they’ve ever watched ITV's Broadchurch; also familiar to foodies will be the backdrop of chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s pad River Cottage, around 20 minutes’ drive away. If you fancy having a go at your own bit of outdoor cheffing, perhaps you’d also like to have a whirl at catching your own supper on a fishing trip from Lyme Regis (10 minutes). If you’ve brought the kids along, it’s a good idea to plan days out in Dorchester (35 minutes), where there’s a dinosaur museum and teddy bear museum, at the farm park at Kingston Maurward (40 minutes) or at Weymouth’s Sea Life Centre (45 minutes).
