Liked: Big clean showers Close to the beach Friendly staff Bar, arcade room and kids entertainment at half term Swimming pool is very well kept and fair booking system

Disliked: Suffers from boggy areas because of the tiered hillside Nowhere flat for kids to play football or ride bikes

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Facilities were very clean, staff really nice and good location for walking into the village

Disliked: Unfortunately we were put in the middle of 8 pitches that had all travelled together making it rather loud. When we complain they were very apologetic and told us who to ring if we had any trouble. Pitch sizes were very deep so we didn't have a massive amount of room at the back of our van conversion

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Our stay at Newlands Holiday Park was fantastic, with pleasantly changeable weather we managed to enjoy the entire stay at this great campsite, we took advantage of the attractions at the campsite - swimming pools, game rooms and more, and we also went for a wonderful walk to the nearby beach which took a few minutes walk and we enjoyed wonderful views of the sea from the campsite, the campsite was clean and well-kept, the staff was very nice and helpful😊, we were at this campsite for the second time and of course it was a success

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Lovely site. Great facilities for kids. Beautiful setting. Not far from the beach. Clean and well kept

Disliked: We weren’t allowed our gazebo. If you don’t use a gazebo, this will not affect you but I know some campers do. It rained for some of the weekend we were there, which meant we had to sit in our tent instead of sitting under our gazebo with our cups of tea or glasses of wine. Also the man that told us to take it down, was a bit mean. I’m not sure of their reasoning behind it but it rather put a dampener on our weekend and for that reason we won’t go back. But other than that, it was a lovely site

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Lovely, clean site with great facilities and just 1 mile walk to the beach. Meals in the restaurant were good and plenty to keep the children entertained.

Disliked: Grass pitches with electric hook up felt a bit crammed - by the time your van is parked and awning pitched, you are sitting on top of the neighbours vehicle. Swimming pool prices are a bit steep by the time you have paid for the whole family - particularly as sessions are only 45 mins

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Brilliant holiday park. The facilities were great, enough to do when the weather wasn't great. The swimming pool was lovely. We pitched 2 tents together with friends and had enough room to have space together in the middle. Other campers were respectful of the rules which isn't always the case at larger sites. Showers were warm and clean. The restaurant/bar was welcoming and family friendly. The kids loved the play park.

Disliked: The only complaint I have is the hand dryers! Our pitch was below the toilets and the hand dryers were so noisy at night! It would be great if they could be turned off at quiet time or even if the door/windows were kept closed at night. Be aware there are some steep hills to walk up! Great exercise though! If it rains your pitch may get very muddy, nothing could be done so not a complaint just the drainage when you're pitched on the bank isn't amazing.

From the manager: Hi Louise, Many thanks for your lovely review and fab photos of the views that we are so lucky to have from our site. We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and hope that you made many family memories. We have had quite a lot of rain to contend with which has kept us on our toes but we are pleased you had a great time nonetheless. Best wishes, Newlands Holidays

Wouldn't book again as all pitches on a slope.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Location and shop on site

Disliked: Pitches are all on a slope making it very difficult to sleep as constantly rolling off the beds. Site was overcrowded and there was nowhere around the tents for children to play. Everyone was on top of each other. Not a good park for someone with physical disabilities.

Liked: Very clean site well laid out

Disliked: Unfortunately we had some extremely noisy neighbours whom I had to tell to keep quite at 1 am in the morning this happened on both nights of our stay. you need some kind of warden that can be called upon.

From the manager: Hello Andrew, Many thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We are glad that you found the site laid out well and clean, our housekeeping team do work extremely hard. Sorry to hear that you had some noisy neighbours. We do have a 10.30pm quiet time rule which staff who live on site do try and monitor but I'm sorry that you had issues. Best wishes Newlands Holidays

Local attractions

Charmouth is the gateway to the Jurassic Coast and has some of the best fossils to be found in Dorset: the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has fossil collections and guided fossil walks and is where you can proudly bring in your very own fossil find to be identified. The beach is a 15-minute walk from Newlands: stroll from here to Lyme Regis keeping your head down for more fossily finds, then wander around Lyme to take a look at Cobb Harbour (made famous in Jane Austen’s Persuasion); buy freshly ground flour at the 14th-century watermill; amble along to at the ammonites, exhibitions and events at the museum, or tee off on the cliff at Lyme Regis Golf Club. Mini fossil-hunters will likely be monster fans of the award-winning Dinosaur Museum at Dorchester, and taking a detour while in town to the Teddy Bear Museum. If they’re watery types, they’ll have a whale of a time at the Splashdown Water Park in Poole and the walk-through underwater tunnel at the Bournemouth Oceanarium. Closer to Newlands and Dino Dan, families can see zebras and meerkats at the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, trundle along on the Seaton Tramway for a scenic trip through the estuary of the River Axe, or feed a shoal of fish at Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium.
