  • West Dorset farm site with lovely views to Pilsdon Pen hill
  • A 10-minute drive to Bridport; 15 minutes to Jurassic Coast
  • Well-equipped communal kitchen on site; riding stables next door
Put your feet up, pour a glass of something and sit down to soak up the scenery… that’s the order of the day at Old Bidlake Farm, in the west Dorset countryside. This peaceful spot is in the pretty Marshwood Vale, with views up to Lewesdon Hill and Pilsdon Pen from the pitches. Want a closer look at those hills? It’s easy to visit both (Iron Age hill forts that mark the highest points in the county) from the farm, either in the car or on foot. There are plenty more paths and lanes around for days of walks and cycling too, and a riding stables next door can sort you out with days of rural hacking, pony trekking and riding lessons. Although the surroundings here are thoroughly rural, it’s only a 10-minute drive to Bridport, a handy place to find shops and places to eat as well as a hub for local culture. A little way beyond the town is the 95-mile Jurassic Coast, renowned for its glorious scenery, water-based activities and fossil-hunting opportunities. With all this gorgeous scenery around, it's no wonder the farm’s owners are keen to help preserve the environment with a minimal-impact approach to their site. That means the one-acre pitching field is surrounded by wildlife-friendly hedging and wildflowers, and power comes from renewable sources. A short stroll through the orchard from the pitches takes you to the facilities area, which has bathrooms, a launderette and a well-equipped communal kitchen with a covered dining area.
