From the manager: We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We were sorry to hear that our facilities didn't meet your expectations.

We currently provide two toilets and two showers for our 14 pitches. On the night of your stay, the site was only at half capacity, with just seven pitches occupied. This means there was one toilet and one shower available for every three to four pitches.

We understand that everyone has different preferences for campsite amenities. For those who prefer a higher ratio of facilities to guests, larger commercial sites are often better option. We believe our small, family-run campsite is best suited for guests who appreciate a more intimate, experience on our Alpaca smallholding. We wish you all the best in finding the perfect spot for your future travels.

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of visiting Little Hampstead Campsite in Totnes, and it truly exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and relaxed in this charming, peaceful setting.

One of the highlights was definitely the farm animals — we loved spending time with the adorable alpacas and chickens, which added a touch of countryside charm and made our stay extra special. The campsite’s beautiful pond was the perfect spot to unwind; we sat by it as the sun dipped below the horizon, soaking in the stunning views and tranquility of the surroundings.

The facilities at Gatcombe Park Farm Glamping were top-notch — clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed to ensure a comfortable camping experience. After a day of exploring, we enjoyed cozy movie night under the stars, complemented by a few beers, making our stay even more memorable.

Liked The Campsite is wonderful. On a farm with hens and ducks (with free range eggs to purchase) and surrounded by alpacas. What more could you ask for? Also it is a 40 minute walk to Totnes along backroads.

Local attractions

Once you’ve managed to drag yourselves away from the alpacas, get the walking shoes on and explore the many footpaths accessed from site. For more serious yomps across moorland to rocky tors, head to Dartmoor National Park (20 minutes’ drive to Buckfastleigh), where you can also spot wild ponies roaming free. Alternatively, turn east to the Devon coast. Paignton (20 minutes) has a sandy beach, a promenade and traditional pier, and if you’re after something more secluded, St Mary’s Bay is an often-almost deserted cove reached by steps down the cliffside. From there, you can walk to the landmark Berry Head Lighthouse in Berry Head National Nature Reserve (20 minutes’ walk). The high street in historic Totnes (five minutes’ drive) is full of small independent shops and art galleries, but the town is at its liveliest on Friday and Sunday, when street markets offer local foods and ciders, artisan crafts and antiques. Dartmouth (half an hour) has a lively waterfront and watersports along the River Dart, and sailing-mad Salcombe (40 minutes) has spectacular views of the Kingsbridge estuary. Brixham (25 minutes) is known for its lively fishing harbour and choice of seafood restaurants.
