Lots of space (added by manager 02 jul 2021)

  • Level field with large pitches on the banks of the River Avon
  • Several beaches within a half-hour drive; 10 minutes to Dartmoor
  • In the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Oakenhambridge Camping is a peaceful site on the banks of the river Avon, just outside the village of Diptford up at the northern end of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There’s plenty of space on the large pitches here – each one measures about five square metres, and they’re all on a pleasingly level field. That means lots of scope to run about and play games, or to set up a barbecue at a safe distance from all such action. It's a simple setup here so there’s no running water or other luxuries, but you’ll have access to portable toilets in the field. Supplies for your grill can be picked up at the shops in Totnes, 15 minutes’ drive away; if you’re not in the mood for cooking, there are easy eats on hand at the family-friendly local pub – it’s just over a mile away, with a large beer garden for those warm evenings. As you’ll be staying in an officially scenic area, it’s no surprise to hear that there are lots of places to get out for walks and bike rides nearby – and the trails of Dartmoor National Park are only about 10-15 minutes away by car, too. And of course you’re never that far from the coast in Devon: here there are several lovely sandy stretches within a half-hour drive, including Blackpool Sands, Bantham beach, Torcross and Bigbury-on-Sea (where you can ride the sea tractor out to Burgh Island).

Liked: Lovely site, flat and just beside the River Avon which provided us with a weir to cool off. Owners were very knowledgeable about the history of the surroundings, very approachable and kind. I will definitely recommend to friends and hope to return. Many thanks D & D.

From the manager: Hello Thanks for your comments. That's a good idea re the lighting - we are going to get some LED lights on the fence especially near the toilets and rubbish disposal points but not to disturb the 'dark night skies' All the best, Diane

Really enjoyed our stay the children wanted to stay another night.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Great little place .

Disliked: Unfortunately a group played very loud music untill just after midnight - hard to settle hound children. No one to report to. Very small narrow bridge to cross over to get to field

From the manager: I have sent you an email - both our mobile numbers are available to our guests and we are only a couple of fields away. Hope you will return some time.:)

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The surroundings are beautiful , kids loved the stream. Wonderfully refreshing on a hot summers day.

Disliked: There's no restrictions on noise level in the evenings so had to deal with loud music from some inconsiderate people till the early hours of the morning and we had four children with us.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I'm so sorry to here about the noise problem you experienced - although our farmhouse is a couple of fields away we would have happily popped down to talk to those who were inconsiderate. if you'd like to pop back again we will arrange a night f.o.c. Diane
