  • Devon farm site 10 minutes' drive from Tiverton, close to the A361
  • A 20-minute drive from Exmoor and 45 minutes to popular Devon beaches
  • Footpaths following the river with access to shallow paddling areas
Bring the kids, bring the dog… both are welcome at Lower Ford, a rural Devon farm 20 minutes' drive away from Exmoor National Park and 10 minutes from Tiverton. For much of the year this farm is dedicated to training racehorses, but when there’s a break in summer the place opens up a pop-up site where guests can come along to share in the rural atmosphere, soak up the lovely views and look out for deer in the neighbouring stag farm. They can also meet and feed Lolli and Honey, the comical and over-friendly goats. There are several beaches within easy driving distance for those who’d just like a bit of a seaside stroll or a paddle. Excellent footpaths through forests, fields and alongside rivers are always a short drive away too. This is a handily located farm, just a little way off the A361 and about two miles from the village of Oakford, which has a pub and a kids’ park. There are also several cafés, restaurants and shops in Tiverton, along with canalside walks and a castle to visit. Pitches here are simple in style but have access to all the essential facilities including a toilet and a shower. You can hire firepits if you’d like to construct a campfire. An enclosed area has also been set up for dogs to have a good run around off lead.

Bell tent

Liked: A lovely birthday sleepover for my son! View's for miles, so clean and tidy, play equipment for our boys and so much room to run and have fun!! Toilets and showers very clean, beds were very comfy. Little touches of outside lights and fairy lights inside added magic to the memories. Gas bbq, benches and fire pit perfect for toasting marshmallows. Location is super quiet and not too far from shops if needed. Easy drive to dawlish warren from the site. The owners were very accommodating bringing extra wood and supplies. We'll be back!

Disliked: Absolutely nothing

Bell tent

Liked: We booked this as a last minute night away with the kids and we absolutely loved it, had everything we needed. Amazing play area which our 2 year old loved and a football goal for the older ones. The owners 2 young children came and played some football and they were extremely friendly and so polite. Also brought their dogs along with them which my daughter loved all of the cuddles. We enjoyed our pizzas in the evening then toasted some marshmallows on the fire. The views are incredible. Best camping experience we have had as a family so far, 100% we will be back again.

Disliked: That we only booked for the one night.

Bell tent

Liked: We had a great stay in the bell tent at Lower Ford. The hosts were fantastic ensuring we had everything we needed, brought extra firewood up each day, and provided a climbing frame as they thought our little one would enjoy it. Danny was also kind enough to bring our dog’s mum up to visit as we purchased him from Danny as a pup. My toddler loved the freedom with the whole field to ourselves, seeing horses just topped it off for her. The bell tent is well equipped, gas stove and kettle provided, cutlery plates etc too. Lovely quiet area, stunning views and close enough to Tiverton to pop into town if needed. Thanks Danny, Joe and Mick!

Liked: We had a great time at Lower Ford. It was magical to hear the red deer bugling so close by and the views were amazing. Danny was so kind and helpful and went out of her way to give us tips and help us see the deer. I would thoroughly recommend this campsite!

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Beautiful scenery, ideal location-remote but not too far to venture somewhere. The host was more than accommodating (we booked last minute and we're the only ones on site) so they quickly set the shower and environment back up for us. I love horses so this is based on a race yard so that was a bonus to have them grazing in the next field to look at. Amazing space.

Disliked: Their are only two points to make (more feedback than a dislike) It is quite costly to take the dog (£10 per dog) And the toilet could maybe do with a small solar light (but a good torch worked ok) its just we were in our converted van and don't have a toilet so early morning toilet need was a dark one :)

From the manager: Thank you for you comments 😊 We have taken note of your improvements and will sort prices and lighting as both valid points.

Bell tent

Liked: Lovely quiet camping area with gorgeous views & friendly horses. We love camping but wanted to try somewhere close to ‘test’ our 5 month old over night so we opted for the lovely bell tent. We were the only ones on site which was amazing if it didn’t go well & meant our toddler just run about for miles and burn off steam. Showers & toilet lovely and clean, nice hot shower & we met the owners who were both welcoming & helpful. Will stay again!

Disliked: If I had to give any constructive feedback, the beds are quite hard & no handle on the loo confused the toddler! Other than that, perfect ☺️

From the manager: The beds are now very comfy 😊
