Fantastic 1 nights stay here in…
Primitive grass and earth campsite
Liked Fantastic 1 nights stay here in our campervan. The pitches were huge, campsite was really clean and well kept . Manager was friendly. Toilet and shower facilities were immaculate. (We didn't use the showers as we were going straight home but took a look when using the loo's! ) A treat to wake up to snow too! Looks beautiful on the site! Excellent pub up the road for food . Great and convenient location. We will definitely return:)

Primitive grass and earth campsite
Liked De ontvangst was zeer hartelijk en de uitleg die we kregen zeer uitgebreid. Het was zeer rustig op de camping (laagseizoen)
Disliked Het was redelijk frisjes in de douches (het was wel stevig aan het vriezen)

Could be an excellent site with a bit of effort
Primitive grass and earth travel trailer campsite
Liked Spacious pitches, natural demarcation.
Hare and Hounds at the top of the road served an excellent carvery every lunchtime and evening.
Disliked No lights in showers had to take our own lamps. Whilst shower tray and curtain were clean and water hot enough and at a good pressure, the cubicles were very shabby. Walls and ceiling were wet resulting in dripping and staining. Ventilation was from a caravan type push up vent which dripped constantly. We had two evenings/mornings of heavy rain and even with the vents closed the rainwater dripped heavily to the point where getting dried and dressed was almost impossible.
The toilets were clean but the sanitary bin in the ladies were not emptied the whole of our four days stay.
The elsan point was just a covered hole with no water to rinse. The pot washing area was out in the open with only cold water available and food debris in the plug hole.
The owner/manager seemed to disappear after two days.
The walk into Ottery St Mary was very steep on a narrow, busy road with no pavement.

From the manager: Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave a detailed review.
Looking at the dates of your stay, it appears you visited while the site was under the previous ownership. Since taking over, we’ve been making significant improvements across the site to address many of the issues you mentioned.
Our shared shower rooms have now been fully updated, and we continue to invest in upgrading facilities throughout. We’ve also added a new wellness area, including a sauna and cold plunges, which will be ready by the end of February.
In addition, we now have a dedicated, covered washing-up area with proper water facilities, and we’re actively working on further site enhancements to improve the overall guest experience.
We really appreciate your feedback and hope you might consider visiting again in the future to see how the site has evolved.
Kind regards

Primitive grass and earth campsite
Liked Lovely big pitches that are assigned and clean facilities. Great for looking at the stars and some tranquillity. Staff were available if needed but left you to it.
Disliked Our pitch was on a bit of a slope and very shaded which meant it was freezing at night. The ground was rock solid but this was probably due to the weather.

Peaceful, spacious and clean with a very warm welcome
Primitive grass and earth travel trailer campsite
Liked What a beautiful spot this is. Really well laid out with very spacious flat pitches cut out of the meadow grass. Surrounded by trees and very peaceful. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. As a solo traveller I felt very comfortable. The facilities are top notch for this kind of wild camping. Showers powerful and stay on (no 30 second timers!!). Loos spotlessly clean. There’s also washing ip facilities and plenty of recycling facilities. Although this was a short visit this time, I could see there are some walking routes from the site. Firepits and wood are available to hire too.
