Primitive grass tent campsite (small)

Liked: This is a great little campsite. Good ground, great views, and clean facilities, with showers and washing up area, and even a washing machine too. Views over Devon farmland and up to Dartmoor as the sun sets are really lovely. Fire pits and wood are available. Not far from Torbay beaches and Shaldon/Teignmouth. Staff on site every morning.

Liked: The people at the reception were so friendly and gave me useful information for walks around the area, great coffee too and you can buy some food essentials from the little shop as well. You can pitch anywhere you'd like, the campsite is really quiet and the showers and toilets are very well kept, washing up area with drinking water available!

Primitive grass tent campsite (XL)

Liked: SO cheap for what it was, such good value for money. Liked that we were able to pitch where we wanted and there were no designated spots. Facilities were clean and had everything we needed. Happy with the location- short drive from town, few local pubs, had no issue with taxis. Charging points were very useful

Primitive grass tent campsite (small)

Liked: Treacle Valley Campsite is located in such a pretty part of Devon, located in close proximity to some of the seaside towns and Devonshire coves. The campsite showers were always hot. There was enough toilets for the campsite and these were regularly cleaned. The owner was very hands on and a fountain of knowledge for the surrounding area.

Disliked: The grounds were uneven and finding a flat pitch was extremely difficult. The play facilities were limited and in a small area which seemed to have been monopolised by a large camp of a family. A few more showers would have been useful. Limiting large groups would have also enhanced the experience and reduced the noise at night and the rubbish left. (Not owners or campsite facility fault but still part of the experience we had - I understand why campsites in the Lake District do not allow groups of campers - seems a few ruin for all!)

Primitive grass tent campsite (small)

Liked: Location was great, views were amazing and the facilities were good

Disliked: Unruly guests that weren't kept in check, playing loud music all night and into the early hours of the morning. The cleanliness of the facilities wasn't great but this was again due to the same unruly guests, the hosts were regularly cleaning rhe facilities, it just didn't last. The hosts should have addressed the group spoiling it for everyone else

Local attractions

For stuff to do nearby, try a visit to the historic village of Cockington, three miles away, where there's a manor house and a cricket ground plus some 16th-century thatched stone cottages and a traditional pub serving cream teas. The award-winning caves of Kents Cavern – once home to prehistoric humans – are also within easy reach of Treacle Valley; this subterranean network lies close to some spectacularly scenic coastal areas with several walking routes along Torbay's UNESCO Global Geopark – one of only seven in the UK. A walk around Babbacombe coves and cliffs begins at Anstey's Cove (opposite Kents Cavern), to wind its way along a scenic track and bring you out into the pretty village of Babbacombe in Torquay; take a ride on the famed Babbacombe Cliff Railway, then follow up with a wander around four acres of award-winning gardens showcasing hundreds of model scenes and railways at Babbacombe Model Village. Take the kids on an animal adventure to explore the marine displays of Living Coasts coastal zoo and the enclosures of Paignton Zoo, both within six miles, or visit the seaside towns of Torquay, Newton Abbot, Paignton or Totnes for miniature golf, arcades, ice cream shops and beaches.
