FHU gravel travel trailer campsite (large)

Liked: Well organised. Owner very helpful and thoughtful . Loved the private bathrooms. Lovely idea to have an exceptionally well stocked shop run as an honesty shop. Quiet site and convenient for the local buses which stop at the entrance.

FHU gravel travel trailer campsite (large)

Liked: Toilet and showering facilities were very good. The on site shop was one of the best I have ever seen.

Disliked: The hard standing pitches were of adequate size but manoeuvring on to them was a little tight for larger caravans.

FHU gravel travel trailer campsite (large)

Liked: Well maintained site with amazing shower and toilet facilities. The honesty shop is amazingly well stocked with everything you could possibly need. Nice to have our own water tap and bench.

Disliked: We found the road noise quite intrusive, and the pitch we were on felt quite cramped. The inconsiderate person that decided to jet wash his caravan at 7.30pm so we were sprayed with water through the hedge, and couldn't hear ourselves think, kind of ruined our idea of a nice peaceful relaxing evening! I'm surprised the campsite allow this, but as it was happening in full view of the wardens accommodation, I'm assuming they do!

FHU gravel travel trailer campsite (large)

Liked: The facilities were great clean and well kept the owners clearly care about it all. The honesty shop was as good as a supermarket and not overpriced

Disliked: Our pitch for 4 nights could have been better I felt cramped on between the pods and seasonal vans

Camping pod

Liked: Honestly I can’t fault a thing with our stay. We opted for a camping pod for an our 2 night stay. It was very clean and everything we could have needed was there for us. The bathrooms were modern and immaculately clean. The site was very well managed with lovely views. We received information prior to our arrival explaining the check in/check out procedures and lots of information about the surrounding area which was very helpful. Our pod also had the most comfortable bed. It’s a shame we couldn’t stay longer!

Local attractions

First up, Kingsbridge: the town is a mile away from Parkland, with two footpaths running from the park so you don't need to tramp the main roads. If you’re getting the bus, a stop is at the Parkland entrance; if you’re driving, there are several places to park including at the Quayside where there are markets, concerts and events throughout the year. Next, Salcombe, Devon’s most southerly town and accessible by bus from Kingsbridge. It's famed for its ice cream – try the rum and raisin – and you can also try boating and watersports from here, with tuition available for the uninitiated. Both Salcombe and Kingsbridge are in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with two National Nature Reserves, heaps of walks and trails, and several towns and villages including Dartmouth and Bigbury-on-Sea – on the coast above the biggest sandy beach in south Devon and with access to the tiny Burgh Island where Hercule Poirot went after baddies. Closer to home for sand fans is Bantham, the closest beach to Parkland and a serene spot for surfing, wildlife spotting among the dunes or slathering on the suntan lotion.
