Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: Great barn space with picnic tables, tea and coffee facilities and nice hot showers. A friend and I stayed on the last day of the season. The campsite made for a perfect location after a day of open water swimming around Thurlestone and Sour Mill Cove. Rob was friendly and accommodating, the barn space made for an excellent space to chill and eat after our busy day. Will definitely recommend and would stay again.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: Fantastic view from the site and very peaceful. Very quiet at night with great stargazing when the sky is clear. Facilities are basic, but clean tidy. The barn is a great option to shelter in when the weather turns. We will definitely be back and will bring friends with us.

Disliked: Not a problem, but if you have a larger vehicle some of the roads in the area are very narrow. There are regular passing spots. One of the showers didn’t work when we were there, but the owner was very responsive.

Liked: Beautiful sea views, great location. Very peaceful.

Disliked: Site has a slight slope. Composting toilets - occasionally left in an unfortunate state by inconsiderate campers not cleaning up their own mess.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: Great camping spot on a very well looked after farm. The main camping field is big with a great view down the valley and out to sea. There is plenty of space for pitches/vehicles and it's great for kids to run around play but big enough for people without kids not to be bothered by them too much either. Compost toilets (x2) are well put together and looked after. The main barn at the bottom of the site is a nice touch, set up with picnic benches (handy if it chucks it down) and fridge/freezers microwave, kettle and washing up sinks (x2)...also has toys/books available. The showers in the barn (x2) are probably the best camping showers we've ever used! They are massive and have definitely been built with families in mind. All in all it's a great spot, easy to get to local beaches/coast paths, the site is simple but well thought out and maintained and would definitely recommend.

Disliked: Wanted to stay longer.

Local attractions

If you’ve got little ones to entertain, no need to fret. Pennywell Farm (35 minutes' drive) has pig racing, trailer rides and a miniature railway, plus plenty of friendly farm animals for hands-on experiences. Woodlands Family Theme Park (20 minutes) has some slightly more daring rides, including rollercoasters and toboggan runs, as well as a zoo park and falconry. Or, if you’re still looking to see more animals (and many of the wilder kind), Paignton Zoo Environmental Park (40 minutes) is a good detour. Paignton (45 minutes) itself has seaside resorts vibes in full with a busy beachfront, pier or steam railway rides a little further inland. A fishing village with thatched cottages… Hope Cove (10 minutes) is a stop off the South West Coast Path and home to two small coves. Take a fishing trip here or set sail from Salcombe (15 minutes), a sailing town. Afterwards, you may want to dedicate some time to browsing the boutique shops, dining in a fine restaurant or taking the ferry to East Portlemouth beach (35 minutes) or South Sands Beach (15 minutes).
