Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: Stunning location with excellent view, great showers, communal fire and very friendly. The compost loos aren't for everyone but they have made these as nice as they can be. I didn't book until late on the day and couldn't arrive until 7pm but they were more than happy and met me at the gate. I recommend booking in advance as could book the next day as they were fully booked.

Disliked: There is a electric tower on the site which you can hear buzzing. This may not be for everyone.

Cabin

Liked: Not sure if we are young couple, but we don’t feel like middle age! I think regaldress of the age you will love holidays in the little wooden cabin! Perfect place to relax, hang out by the fire or read in the hammock. We would love to come back!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The view was wonderful and the showers were great. Even the compostable toilets were very clean and as pleasant and user-friendly as they can be. The location was good too as, although it is in the countryside it is easy to get into Exeter and to the A30/ M5.

Disliked: The massive pylon above the site was a bit unnerving - but can't be helped, I know.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Wonderful people, amazing views, felt very safe and friendly. I bought my dog with me too who was very intrigued with the sheep. Good basic facilities, delicious water straight from bore hole, yummy fresh eggs and there was a communal fire pit and some smaller braziers with logs available on camp. Rupert was so kind as he saw me walking up the hill and gave me a lift! Easily accessible via bus and a 10/15 minute walk up the lanes. Will be sure to become a regular when I start uni as would prefer the nature to an air bnb

Disliked: A little chilly under the oak trees on pitch 2 if you’re a bit nesh, ask for a sunny spot but nothing to dislike - I should have packed an extra layer!

Local attractions

As well as all the sights of Exeter, which include the cathedral, a clutch of Tudor buildings and the medieval Underground Passages in the centre, another place to spend a stint is Topsham village, a 25-minute drive away – the park here is a top spot for birding along the estuary or taking a tug boat over to the pub just across the water. Further on towards the coast is Exmouth beach, a family-friendly, sandy space accessible on the train line (from both Topsham and Exeter), with restaurants and cafés to totter towards in town. Once the kids have worn out their bucket and spade, take them on the rides at Crealy Theme Park & Resort in Sidmouth, 20 minutes away. Grownups might like to factor in a little time in this town too for roams around Bicton Park Botanical Gardens and ganders at the Regency-era architecture – if the kids start to moan, simply pack them off for more sandy times at Sidmouth beach.
