Wish you were here?

  • Small, multi-award-winning and peaceful site in a secluded valley
  • Putsborough beach and Croyde village centre both 15 minutes' walk
  • Immaculate amenities; campfires allowed; pubs within walking distance
If you haven't been to the beach at Woolacombe yet… why ever not? These stunning and award-winning sands have been hailed as the best in all of Britain and among the top in Europe (sometimes even on the entire planet): you'll see why the second you get there… Glimpses of this spectacular stretch of sand can be had from Combas Farm, a family-run site in a secluded valley within sauntering distance of Croyde village. Guests have been returning here for years for the spectacular and handy north Devon setting, as well the warm vibe that owners Gwen and Sally and their team have created: the words 'friendly' and 'helpful' crop up time and again in guests' reviews. Most folk also mightily appreciate the spotlessly kept and modern amenities on the farm too, set in a converted barn and including powerful hot showers, immaculate toilets, a washing-up area and sockets for gadget charging. Camping is in four fields – one with those stunning views over Woolacombe Bay and the others closer to the swish facilities. A half-mile trot along a farm track leads to the shops and pubs of Croyde village; the site is also about a 15-minute stroll from Putsborough beach. Firepits and barbecues are allowed: pick up all you could need for either of these in Braunton, 15 minutes' drive away. Several pubs and restaurants are also within walking distance.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: 1. Staff - super friendly, efficient and helpful 2. Site - clean, well maintained, plenty of bins/recycling stations, composting toilets close by 3. Pitches - spacious and well manicured grass, campfires allowed and bonus supply of blackberries for breakfast and fireside supper blackberry and apple crumble 4. Facilities - excellent showers and toilets (never had to wait or endure a cold shower), wash-up area, kettles and mobile charging stations. Regularly cleaned to maintain a spotless standard. Fridges and freezers proved very useful as did an area to rinse and dry wetsuits and swimming equipment 5. Location - fine range of excellent pubs etc within walking distance, very close to two beaches. Croyde ideal for body-boarding and surfing (inc surf tuition), Putsbrough “miles” on lovely sand. Also close to beaches at Woolacombe & Saunton Sands.

Disliked: A bit of rain!

JONATHAN H. The reviewer booked through Pitchup.com

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Location is amazing. Croyde village is walkable in under 10 mins. Croyde and Pittsburgh beach both in around 15. Our pitch was amazing. Loads of space, stars at night and bats. Toilets/showers are immaculate. The rustic bloc with the string light bulbs and concrete floor were awesome. The weather wasn't fantastic so the path to the village was muddy. We were able to borrow wellies from the dry room to make the journey.

From the manager: Thank you for your great review Jonathan. Glad you found the wellies!

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Love this campsite! We returned here after a great stay last year and were able to stay in the top field again where you have spectacular views over to Woolacombe and once again we were treated to a stunning sunset. Fantastic facilities, super clean and really quiet and peaceful site with super starry skies at night. Love walking down the lane to the pubs in Croyde in the evening and great local walks as well as beautiful beaches. Sally could not be more helpful! Hoping to return next year for our Devon fix!

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review Noreen and for appreciating what the area here has to offer. Look forward to seeing you again next year. Sally

Local attractions

The nearest beach is Putsborough Sands, at one end of Woolacombe Bay. It's generally a quieter spot than the rest of Woolacombe beach and is just one of the north Devon surfing destinations near the farm. Surf's also up at Saunton Sands, 20 minutes' drive from the farm, and at Croyde and Westward Ho! as well as the main Devon surf spots of Woolacombe and Ilfracombe. The spectacular South West Coast Path is also a must if you're anywhere around the shoreline of England's south west: join it at Croyde for the five-mile stretch to Woolacombe past the National Trust's fably-named Baggy Point, or hike a hefty 15 miles to go further south on the route from Woolacombe to Braunton. Another scenic option for walking – and cycling – is the Tarka Trail, the looping paths following the route of Henry Williamson's fictional otter. This one's accessible from Woolacombe too, but the most popular part is probably the car-free 31 miles between Meeth and Braunton: drop into the Museum of British Surfing at Braunton for the story of south-west surf if you have energy afterwards. More walks? Exmoor National Park is within 40 minutes' drive.
