  • Peaceful rural site in Cornwall seven miles from the coast
  • A five-minute drive to Lappa Valley and 15 minutes to sandy beaches
  • Meals and barbecues available; on-site food shop for essentials
If you’re thinking of throwing in the shovel for a break away, head to Penhallow House Glamping Retreat, a peaceful Cornwall retreat where the coast is not far away. Within 15 minutes’ of several sandy beaches and Newquay’s lively seaside sights, this rural site is well-situated for making way to the north or south coasts, with Truro 20 minutes’ away on the other side and the A30 within five minutes’ drive. Let yourself be taken care of a little bit. With breakfast, lunch bags and evening meals available on site (upon request), you can feel pretty powered up for the day. Make use of the barbecues provided on site and find bits and bobs to stack up on the grill at the on-site shop, which has a nice supply of essentials to take care of the basic things you’ll want to get your mitts on. Plus, for any other needs, there’s also wifi and a launderette on site. If there’s anything you can’t find, there’s a small shop within five minutes’ drive. Drop into the pub while you’re there if you fancy some home-cooked style food or a pint before you head back. Then end the day beside the campfire if you wish, as they’re permitted back on site. As Penhallow House Glamping Retreat is a Greener Camping Club site, your stay includes a small membership fee that will be refunded to you upon arrival if you're already a member.

Polzeath bell tent

Liked Spacious bell tent which was well fitted. The firepit was fun to have a campfire outside our tent. Bathroom facilities were a short walk away. Nice filter coffee for breakfast. Beautiful, peaceful location. Owners friendly and helpful. Lovely to see the chicken with her chicks roaming around, cuteness overload!

Disliked The bed in the bell tent wasn't level, could've done with the sight being levelled out better. Lots of spiders and spiderwebs in the roof, which didn't look like it had been cleaned for some time. Bathroom facilities weren't always that clean. Breakfast was adequate, but was disappointed there wasn't any pastries in the continental breakfast.

Bell tent

Liked Everything. Beautiful place in a lovely quiet location. The staff were really very friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was tasty with plenty of it.

Disliked Nothing TBH. If going in the rainy season I would suggest taking your wellies as its a bit muddy in places.

Local attractions

Here, it doesn’t matter whether you’re keen on beach bumming it, taking in as much history as possible or letting your feet lead the way around the local trails. There are plenty of options for the former: a National Trust beach with surfing such as Godrevy (half an hour’s drive), the gorgeous bay, art museum and fishing harbour in St Ives (35 minutes) or Perraporth beach (15 minutes), a sandy destination for all things watersports. In Newquay (15 minutes), there’s more of the chilled-out sand and sea vibe, plus an aquarium and shops for good measure. For the ultimate peaceful coastal walks, though, St Agnes Heritage Coast (25 minutes) should be high up on your list – it’s a UNESCO World Heritage nature reserve, after all. As for that historic stuff, while the playgrounds are lovely at Lappa Valley (five minutes), it’s also home to a historic steam railway. Then, there’s the Healey Cornish Cyder Farm 15 minutes) for cyder tours and tastings, sure to be tasty, and the National Trust’s Trelissick Garden (half an hour) with 300-acres worth of walks and coastal scenery. Moorland trails are the speciality at Goss Moor National Nature Reserve (half an hour). However, if you’re looking for somewhere with more wildlife (and an indoor play centre too), Paradise Park and JungleBarn Cornwall (35 minutes) is likely to be a hit.
