  • Luxury holiday park five minutes’ drive from St Ives in Cornwall
  • Carbis Bay 10 minutes’ drive and St Michael’s Mount 25 minutes
  • Play area and sports field; shop and daily bread delivery service
Set among farmland and gorse-covered hills just five minutes’ drive from arty St Ives, Trevalgan Touring Park is a luxury site within the stunning Cornwall National Landscape. It’s also only a short walk from the South West Coast Path, and has unforgettable views across Cornwall’s most dramatic coastline. And there’s also good news for those who don’t want to battle for a parking space in St Ives, as you can simply take the regular bus service that departs from the site entrance (just take note that it doesn't accept bus passes). Trevalgan has been designed with families in mind; there’s a playground with a wooden pirate ship and rope courses, a sports area for ball games and a games room with ping pong, pool and table football. The site also makes a great base for couples, thanks to its proximity to St Ives and the West Cornwall peninsula – and what could be more romantic than waking up to coastal views while being serenaded by birdsong? Dogs are welcome too, and there are canine-friendly beaches in the area. On-site facilities include an enclosed field for off-lead time (supervision required), water bowls, poop bags and bins. There are dog tethers available outside the shower block and reception, and a warm shower especially for muddy or sandy paws. Amenities include a well-stocked shop selling local produce, grocery basics and camping supplies. You can order fresh baguettes and pastries to pick up from reception each morning, and enjoy a hot drink while you’re there too.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked We had an amazing experience at Trevalgan Touring Park. The campsite is very clean, well maintained, and clearly looked after with daily maintenance checks around the site.

The facilities are excellent — there are plenty of toilets and showers available, and they are cleaned very regularly. The quality of the facilities is honestly much higher than many campsites we have visited.

The location is also perfect. The park is surrounded by nature and feels peaceful and relaxing, while still being only about a 45-minute walk from the centre of St Ives. There is also a convenient bus service available if you don’t want to walk.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a clean, quiet, and well located campsite in Cornwall.

Disliked A couple of very small points for improvement, although they did not affect our 10/10 experience at all. The campsite shop closes at 6pm, so it was not possible to buy essentials like soap later in the evening — a small vending machine could be a useful addition.

Also, the games room did not have a machine to exchange money or an option to pay by card, which would make it more convenient for visitors.

FHU grass campsite

Liked This is a beautiful, spotlessly clean and well maintained site. We had a lovely welcome from Glen and Sammy who recommended the pastries (order at the shop for pick up next morning) the Apricot pastry is to die for! Individual toilets including shower and sink, washing up and washing machines and dryers were brilliant, very clean and tidy. Dog friendly with a fab off lead area, again very clean. Wifi is free and brilliant to use. All the staff were lovely. Bus from site into St Ives is a must. Will definitely be back. Absolutely loved it!

FHU grass campsite

Liked Nice site with premium feel. Great bathroom facilities. Some great walks straight from the site. Easy access to bus going to/from St Ives.

Disliked Tiny negative was anti dogs in some parts of the site but this seems to be a Cornwall thing as never experienced this before. They are still well catered for. The other small issue was the main facilities closed for 3 hours midday. Not an issue for the bathrooms as alternatives but unable to get to laundry and dishwash area.

Local attractions

As well as exceptional art at the Tate St Ives or Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, St Ives (five minutes’ drive) is renowned for its golden sand beaches and turquoise seas. The main beaches are all lifeguarded and have decent facilities: Porthminster (five minutes) and Carbis Bay (10 minutes) offer sheltered bathing, while Porthmeor (15 minutes) is great for surfing and bodyboarding. There’s easy access to the South West Coast Path (10 minutes’ walk) too; you can check out the Merry Harvesters Stone Circle (20 minutes) or take selfies at the dramatic Raga Rock (an hour). You can also go coasteering at Newlyn (half an hour’s drive), or be more sedate and play a round on the links course at West Cornwall Golf Club (15 minutes). Day trips might include family fun in the soft play barn and encounters with penguins and raptors at Paradise Park and JungleBarn Cornwall (15 minutes). Check tide times before crossing over the bay to the medieval castle and church at St Michael’s Mount (25 minutes), or book to see a play at the alfresco Minack Theatre (45 minutes).
