Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: I liked that you can choose your own pitch - there was so much room. The campsite is generally clean and is also situated in a very good location, only 10 minute drive from Newquay.

Disliked: There needs to be more bins set around the site. We had dogs with use and there wasn’t many places to dispose of the poo bags. Entertainment is only on a Saturday night as well.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: At the site we was able to choose our own space to camp, the guest services team were amazing- all super polite and helpful. The pool was super clean and easy to book. The park was great, my 3 year olds were a little too small but that didn’t stop them giving it a good go anyway! All areas of the site were maintained to a high standard and regularly checked on to ensure they stayed at this high standard. The pitches were all level and grass wasn’t too long. There was also a bush dividing the two fields which was great as it gave some privacy. Plenty of families on site with children of all ages and all were respectful of that. This was not a rowdy site at all.

Disliked: Unfortunately, the site advertises evening entertainment but that wasn’t available- there was karaoke on a Saturday night but that was all. The bar was chaos, they had no milk for hot drinks, the lady working in there was super slow also not the warmest welcome. The toilets/showers on site for camping were crazy. There are few, but those few after some showers are dangerous. My little girl slipped and cracked her ribs on the shower… they flooded super easily. The arcade was super naff, not really anything in there other than the 2p machines working. Everything else was either broken, turned off or empty! Finally, the road coming in and out of the site is absolutely awful!! No shop on site- I feel that would be a great improvement.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: We could pick our own pitches. The showers/toilet cubicles were nice and clean. We were able to add an additional night stay. We never got round to using the swimming pool or arcade, but it was nice to have that on site along with a play park. Walking area for dogs.

Disliked: The 10am depart, with having tents a midday depart would of been better to allow drying of tent. That's why we booked additional stay. More single unit toilets as many were showering whilst others only needed the toilet. The hot water could of been better within the washing area and better signage of the drinking water tap. Maybe bins at the entrance of the dog walking area.

Local attractions

There’s plenty to please all tastes around here, such as coarse fishing at the nearby lakes; teeing off at Perranporth's 18-hole golf course; horse riding at Reen Manor and surf lessons nearby for beginners. For a shopping day, shop in the cathedral city of Truro, eight miles from Newperran: the Pannier Market is the biggest in the area and farmers’ markets are at Lemon Quay on Wednesdays and Saturdays as well as food, drink, art and craft fairs held on the quay on various Saturdays. Newquay is even closer than Truro – about five miles away – and Perranporth beach is just two miles away; both are top surfing beaches and surf schools and surf shops are on hand for the newly wetsuited. If you prefer messing about on land, there’s plenty to do out of the water too: most Cornish villages have flower and music festivals at some point in the summer and there are carnival and regatta weeks regularly held in the bigger towns. From Newperran you’ll be within easy driving distance of most of the top attractions of this part of Cornwall such as the Tate Gallery at St Ives, the clifftop Minack Theatre at Porthcurno and, going north, King Arthur’s haunt Tintagel and the prettiness of Port Isaac. Sticking closer to Newquay, it’s not all about the surf: Newquay Zoo and its hundreds of species is tickety-boo for a family day out, and the award-winning DairyLand Farmworld is right on for rainy days with a humongous indoor play area alongside tractor rides, a nature trail and farm animals. Fisher folk can get their hook on at shoals of sea, lake and river fishing around Newquay and Cornwall: as well as the discounted coarse fishing near Newperran Holiday Park, try angling for some time fishing from Newquay Harbour where there are also boats for hire and sea safari trips to see the Newquay grey seals. Or just pack a picnic and take to your feet for hikes and strolls around the Cornish countryside and coast: start from Newquay’s Trenance Gardens and meander along the River Gannel to Crantock; hike the headlands from Newquay Golf Club, or take a promenade from Perranporth to St Agnes to take in some mining history. The South West Coast Path has a 12-mile walk from Newquay to Perranporth, crossing famed Fistral Beach.
