What customers say
Great views & space, amazing showers! Kit Hill walks nearby. Peaceful spot, friendly hosts. Some portaloos needed more cleaning. Basic but good value, Callington amenities close. Dogs welcome (fee applies).

It's fine if you just need a field to stop in with minimal amenities
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked The views were amazing, lady who runs it was very friendly and approachable. The large fire pit with chairs all around was nice.
Single shower was nice.
The newly built communal shelter was really nice along with the solar powered phone charging units.
Location great
Disliked Only one shower, the wooden shed it was in was too small, you couldn't get dressed easily, you stepped in to a very small area, only max foot wide, then the shower curtain and cubicle, would be better if the entrance part was bigger.
even though the grass had been cut, it was still quite long and was extremely lumpy and it was mainly a very steep slop.
The porta loos were on one side of the field and the 1 shower was at the bottom of the very steep sloppy field. Drinking water was just in one place next to the shower.

Friendly staff, welcome pk was nice but pointless, no washing up area
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked The 1 shower was good glad I didn't book another night
Disliked Over priced for a field with no washing up facilities and porta loos which 2 out of 4 were full. Rubbish area (jumbo ton bags) overflowing worth no more than £10 a night.

Great shower, great views, toilets unacceptable.
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked The shower was excellent, warm and easy to operate. However, the instructions provided did not get the water hot or the pilot light on the boiler lit. Might need to fiddle around a bit with the water pressure and temperature controls. Loved the walk up Kit Hill opposite, great views
Disliked Main issues with the campsite was the toilets. They were portaloos that had not been cleaned. Informed by campsite staff (who we only saw once during a 3 night stay, mobile numbers provided on site for assistance) that they were cleaned out once a week but that the clean had been missed in the previous week. By the third day the toilets were overflowing with toilet paper and excrement. To improve campsite would recommend a compost toilet and then owners can ensure sanitary conditions. Only saw owner on first morning and did not return for the rest of our stay, if there were issues staff are very absent.

From the manager: Hi, I did meet you and explained we were waiting to have the portaloos emptied, which has now been done. They were kept clean by myself 3 x a day but i cant go behind every guest. However, we take all comments very seriously and addressed the problem by buying our own tanker so this never happens again. Our guests safety and welfare is of the highest importance to us.
We have also added more notices inside for guests to check before they leave and to leave the loos as they would like to find them. Which would have been obvious to us. My husband and i were both in and out of the field several times a day but sadly you must have been out when we were there. We are very pleased that you enjoyed the shower, its a great addition to have a free hot shower on a pop up site. The instructions are clear turn the lever on wait to connect adjust water for temperature. return knobs as found. we are glad you enjoyed the views and our lovely Kit Hill. Take care,

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Absolutely beautiful spot. Lots of space. Wonderful walks from the campsite. Great fire pit. Really good communication.
Disliked Not the campsites fault but a family came and camped right next to us, we could hear them snoring - a huge field with plenty of space. Obviously 'no idea' people. Ruined our stay really.

From the manager: Hi Mary, Thank you for your review, i'm so sorry to hear about the other campers ( How sill & how rude) we do say camp 8 meters apart and they had 8 acres to chose from, crazy.
still, i'm sorry it was not nice for you so come again and I'll find you a quiet spot and a couple of free nights, cheers Tracy

Disliked Nothing except some wind. But it's normal on the hill.

From the manager: Thank you Virginie, for your review it was lovely to meet you. We did have some windy weather that week, odd for July.
Great for basic camping.
Primitive grass RV campsite
Liked What a view. It is quite something, and there's plenty of space to find the perfect spot. Kit Hill is just next door, so we had a great walk with the dog. Tracey was a lovely host. We will be back.
Disliked It's bit basic, but we knew that before we booked. There wasn't really anything I didn't like, although £5 for a small dog wad a bit steep.

A good basic campsite, had everything I needed, great price

Liked Great location very quiet, basic but suited me
Disliked Some people might find it basic, although porta loos are fine for me.

From the manager: Thank you for booking Summit Camping and we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and the amazing views, it is basically a pop up Camping site, so portaloos are the best we can do.

Primitive grass RV campsite
Liked Excellent shower, hot, powerful and clean. Great views. Lots of space - I was the only one there apart from 1 chap who stayed there all season.
Disliked On a steep slope. But then it is called Summit and you wouldn’t get the views if it wasn’t up a hill!

From the manager: Thank you for staying at Summit Camping, we are glad you enjoyed the shower & our lovely views. It is on a slope, hence Summit & Kit Hill as you said :) we've kept the amenities to the left so they are all handy and there's lots of flat places to pitch, We've opened up earlier this year so it is quiet at the moment which is nice for lots of people. Cheers Tracy
Excellent peaceful site with amazing views.
Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite
Liked Score based on the very accurate description on pitch up. Was confused as could not find the shower shed until farmer pointed it out but I'd just got warmed up after very wet day on Dartmoor and wasn't prepared to change that. Hosts were great, checking on me twice a day as I was the only one there. Would have been better with other campers to share the fire pit and chat but that's not hosts fault! Great location and views!. This site is great for exploring both east cornwall and Dartmoor. Other reviews complained about road noise, yes it's noisy during the day but generally stops once kitt hill closes. Slept like a baby and I'm a light sleeper....I chose this site as a test for wild camping. Don't think it's for me as I won't give up my camp bed and quilt and miss my big tent. 😄 that said, I'd stay again
Disliked Nothing, you know what you're getting

From the manager: Hi Rachel, thank you for your review, I will do an automated note for everyone about the shower shed, its in the welcome pack but i don't think you picked that up, Come Back in July or August with Bigger tent & Duvet :) cheers Tracy & I'll bring you some freshly laid eggs for breakfast
