What customers say

This campsite earns praise for outstanding cleanliness, friendly staff, and gorgeous views. Visitors rave about the modern, spotless washrooms, especially the individual pods. The on-site restaurant is a hit for food and atmosphere. Pitches are generally level and spacious. Minor points include small shower cubicles for some and metered electricity costs. It's a peaceful, well-kept site.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked We found the site to be very well kept, the pitches were of a nice size and the directions on arrival were excellent. The showers were great, being individual bathrooms. The on-site cafe 'The Engine Shed' is a must visit. Only 17 pitches so not going to be over-crowded.

Disliked Not really a dislike - Shower cubicles were a bit on the small size and had no shelf in them. Also would have been nice if a rear gate could be put in to allow access to the paths heading towards 'Kit Hill' rather than having to walk 250m along a fast road to get to the nearest track.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Clean. Nice view. Everything worked.

Disliked Could've had hotter water in the showers and tye ability to vary temperature.

Would have felt less corporate if I could have extended my stay by the people on site able to arrange it rather than having to go online again.

Will definitely go back.

Liked The site is small and beautifully well maintained. The location and view is Fantastic. The bathroom and showers are individual pods which are private and in excellent condition. The owners are friendly and very helpful. And the restaurant has beautiful fresh food with a great selection. Breakfast is the best.

Primitive cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Clean amenities block, plenty of toilets & showers. Very pleasant staff who were just leaving for the day when we arrived

Disliked No hot water (luke warm) in the washing up, shower went off very quickly probably about 5 seconds so you constantly had to push the button. Shower matting would be good. We felt as though we were camping in a car park. Nobody there other than work people who came and went at odd times - I think we only saw 1 person the whole time we were there although there were about 8 units

Local attractions

See the sights of Cornwall, west Devon, Plymouth and Dartmoor with royal ease from Compton Park via the easily accessible A38 and A30 roads or by taking a train from Gunnislake two miles away along the Tamar Valley line to the Bere Peninsula and Plymouth. On foot, stride among the scenery, wildlife and mines of Kit Hill Country Park: climb to the stack at the top of the hill for spectacular views over Bodmin Moor. Go east for 386 square miles of walking, climbing or cantering at Dartmoor, and south-east to Plymouth for fathoms' worth of maritime heritage including the National Marine Aquarium and famed Plymouth Hoe. To the north and south, days (weeks?) of splashing can be had at Cornwall's safe and clean family beaches and at the watersports activities of Roadford and Siblyback lakes. Make for award-winning Morwellham Quay on the Tamar for more mining history, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering the industrial heritage of Cornwall and Devon. If historic houses are more your heritage thing, both counties come with heaps of heritage buildings and gardens including lovely Lanhydrock at Bodmin and 700 year old Buckland Abbey at Yelverton. For smalls, the Tamar Valley Donkey Park and play barn or a puff on the steam railways at Launceston and Bodmin should see them sorted, while family days out at the lush Eden Project are about 45 minutes' drive away.
