  • Friendly site in a tree-filled valley near Bodmin Moor
  • Well-maintained and peaceful park in a wildlife haven
  • Easy drive to both coasts and five minutes' ride to the Camel Trail
Escape with a break to Ruthern Valley Holidays… At this friendly site in a tree-filled valley near Bodmin Moor, the emphasis is on making the most of the natural surroundings – think birds and rabbits rather than bingo nights, and a gently meandering stream instead of the boom of a disco bar. The site is carefully laid out to offer visitors the maximum space and seclusion possible. Kids will have a blast roaming around the woods building dens and wildlife spotting, chatting to the resident chickens and pigs, and bouncing around the leafy playground area. Ruthern Valley Holidays also has a licensed shop selling bangers, other local goodies and some essential camping gear. Other amenities include solar-heated showers, toilets, a laundry and washing-up facilities.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Quiet well maintained site, all the facilities needed, in fact more than usual. There is a great area with a kettle, microwave, washers & driers (at a minimal cost) plus some where to sit out of the rain if your in a small tent as some people were. The individual showers were in good condition, cleaned everyday & warm. The shop is well stocked & freshly baked bread can be ordered each morning. The Camel trail is near by for walking or cycling. Good pitches, all in all a great stay

Disliked: Narrow roads to get to the site but helpful directions from the site to avoid the worst via SATNAV.

Camping pod (four person)

Liked: Very peaceful surroundings. Staying in a camping pod with a lockable door gave me a greater sense of security.

Disliked: Only one shower, and no shower curtain meant that the changing area floor got very wet too. (Nice and hot though!)

10-amp powered grass tent, travel trailer or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The site is well maintained, toilets/showers are regularly cleaned (showers were hot with good pressure), and the kitchen area was even equipt with a kettle/microwave/washing machine and tumble dryer. It's a great location to explore from if you dont mind small country roads (we visited Padstow, Trevone bay, Boscastle, as well as Bodmin). The owners were really friendly and the site is a nice peaceful place to stay.

10-amp powered grass tent, travel trailer or trailer tent campsite

Liked: It was a very small site so amenities were close. There was also a microwave which was useful. The site itself was in a lovely, fully rural location, and yet only a 5 minute drive to main roads to travel for day trips. Both the north and south coasts were easily accessible too, as well as many Cornish tourist hot spots.

Disliked: Tent pitch seems to.be on top of a layer of rock, we couldn't put any pegs in straight down, all had to go in at a sharp angle, but we bent a good few pegs when figuring this out and the tent field was not level. The washers/driers took 50p coins only, which was a nuisance as the location was remote so we had to take out cash when out and find somewhere willing to break the note in exchange for coins, the problem being that with less cash used these days it was a tricky task and on the day needed the site shop was closed. There were two hand wash sinks, but no plugs so made washing and submerging items hard. I just wanted to freshen up a couple of cloths, but plugs would've been helpful. The showers were satisfactory, but in need of replacement/upgrade. E.g. rusty accessibility handle into shower, shower heads looked rather aged, no shelf to put belongings on only hooks, but not everything is hangable such as wash bags. The floors had squeegees for if the floor is very wet after your shower, but there was no floor drain to move the water to.... great idea if there was a floor plug, otherwise you just move the water to a puddle that subsequently spreads again. Also, signs on the shower doors would be helpful to know what was in each room as there was a combination of shower and toilets/just showers/just a toilet.

Camping pod (superior, four person)

Liked: Our wigwam was spacious enough for 2 adults and two kids. Loved that electric, kettle, microwave and fridge included. The WiFi was also very good. Nice seating area outside the front of our wigwam, even when it rained lightly we were covered over by the trees. The toilets and showers were really clean. Showers were also hot at all times which was great. The whole site is very well cared for, and there is a small shop on site which is useful. 30 minute drive to many of the typical tourist hotspots in Cornwall. There is also a park and plenty of space for kids to explore. The hosts provided a really useful pack of things near by and activities to do. You can hire wetsuits, bikes etc from the site to use for the day as well.

Camping pod (superior, four person)

Liked: Very welcoming, great facility and clean. The small shop has all the essentials you need and open at adequate times. Has great play area and the place was quiet and calm. Highly recommend. The free good connection WiFi was a real bonus.

Disliked: Only slight negative is the narrow roads leading to the place but that’s Cornwall in a nutshell.
