  • Small glamping site on a working farm in the South Downs National Park
  • A half-hour walk to Devil's Dyke; 25 minutes' drive to Brighton
  • Ensuite units with private outdoor space and stunning views
Whether it’s setting off for a cycle or a day at the seaside, the Foot of the Downs is a sound little base in the South Downs National Park. This West Sussex glamping site has lots of choices for getting out and about - just outside of the village of Fulking, it’s close to the Devil’s Dyke National Trust site and 15 minutes' drive from Shoreham-by-Sea or about 25 minutes from Brighton. This working farm is in the South Downs National Park, so naturally, there are some fab paths around. The Devil’s Dyke Trail and the South Downs Way are both a short walk or ride away
and upon your return, bikes can be stored safely in the shed, with locks available to hire if you need them. More options for days out include a couple of golf courses close by, castles or gardens. And if you don’t feel like travelling at all, the local pub is only a short stroll, half a mile away. Back at the farm, all the cosy units have their own ensuite bathroom (with toilet, shower and sink), plus a comfy bed and a kitchen area with utensils provided. Each one also has its own private outdoor space too, with a picnic bench and log seating from which to admire the stunning South Downs views. Firepits can be hired on site for an extra fee, a welcome addition to an evening of drinks and snacks as the sun goes down. Pick up anything you need at shops in Steyning or Henfield (both around 10 minutes away by car).

Camping pod

Liked: Absolutely beautiful location! It’s about a 45 minute walk up to devils dyke (depending on which route you take) or you can even just sit at the camping pod and watch all of the paragliders flying in the sky. There’s loads of others walks around as well, you’ve got a few local pubs to choose from (within walking distance) and also shops a short drive away. Also love the wheelbarrows to take all of your belongings to the site, makes like so much easier! The accommodation itself was beautifully clean and lovely and cosy! Would definitely go back!

Camping pod

Liked: Really nice place! Great location with nice open views. Clever idea to use wheelbarrows to get your stuff from the car to the accomodation! We ordered the BBQ pack, nice variety of meat + buns and sauces. The camping pod looks great and is well equipped. Really comfortable bed. We had a bit of rain, but that didn't stop us from doing the nearby Devil's Dyke hike and a lunch at the restaurant at the start/end of the walk. Great walk with nice views. Goes up and down quite a bit, so put good walking shoes on. We only stayed two nights which was a shame because there is an abundance of other nice walks in the area. We would love to come back and explore the area some more!

Disliked: Due to the weather we couldn't marvel at the stars (the place lies in a Dark Skies reserve), I guess we have to come back for that! ;)

Camping pod

Liked: A perfect place to enjoy peaceful and quiet time. The pod was super clean and tidy and everything you need is there, just take your clothes. Welcoming basket with some flavour tea, roasted coffee and cookies was 😍. Best firepit with bbq rack, wood all utensils included so evening đŸ”„ and stargazing was a must. The area is stunning and amazing for hikes and walks. We had an amazing time and already planning when to come back. Thank you for having us ❀

Camping pod

Liked: Pod was very spacious and had everything you would need. Shower was powerful and very hot. You also had plenty of space outside the pod. We paid extra to have the fire, which is a must! Great location, lots of pubs nearby, Devils Dyke, Bramber Castle, Shoreham-by- Sea etc

Disliked: Didn't dislike anything. Only feedback is there was no mop within the pod, which would have been useful as it had been raining a lot which made it very muddy outside and we had a dog with us.

Camping pod

Liked: The view was lovely and the atmosphere was so peaceful. We felt very calm and relaxed here. Fire pit was a must, cooked all sorts on it over the weekend. The pod was very cosy and had everything we needed! Have recommended to family and friends and will definitely visit in the future.

Disliked: Wasn’t much to dislike. The only thing that bothered us was a few flies go into the pod and was a nightmare to get out. Obviously nothing to do with the stay but is obviously normal it being in the country side!

Camping pod

Liked: Very nice place to stay, very clean, fantastic view. Everything you need in the pod. Welcome packs were very nice, good quality food which saved us bringing food.

Disliked: if we were being picky maybe a check in of 2 o'clock and a check out of eleven o'clock in the morning would have been nicer. But that said we had a lovely time

Camping pod

Liked: Hectic first half of the year, so my husband and I needed to get away from it all. We had a fantastic week in beautiful surroundings. Our pod was comfortable with everything we needed for our stay. Great location, pubs, food within walking distance. Short drive to beaches etc. Good for walking the downs.

Local attractions

Wet your palate a little
with Albourne Estate (10 minutes’ drive) so close by, you’ll be well-set to get wrapped up in a wine tasting tour around the vineyard. Fish and chips are more the kind of thing you’ll get your hands on in Brighton (25 minutes), good fuel for the beach, Lanes shopping area, pier and Sea Life Centre, depending on what kind of day out you’re aiming for. Shoreham-by-Sea beach (15 minutes) is another of those seaside destinations – perhaps dabble in some windsurfing or kitesurfing while you’re here – but if you’re after somewhere handsome inland, there’s the Sussex Prairie Garden (15 minutes). Of course, one of the closest spots to the site is the National Trust’s Devil’s Dyke (half an hour’s walk) and for those of who you who are wondering exactly what that is, it’s a prime beauty spot for walking in the South Downs. Handily, historic sites are not at all hard to find either. There’s the Norman remains of the Bramber Castle (10 minutes’ drive) or you could go for a picnic by the Jack and Jill Windmills (15 minutes).
