Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: Site manager cancelled our visit within a few hours of our stay and refused to refund us. They do not answer emails and looking at other reviews the site manager is sarcastic and refuses to accept any criticism. Take a quick peek at the site and you'll see it's a dump.

From the manager: We are sorry but not respond to abuse or bad weather. I’ll have a word with his almighty to stop the rains next time… or you Could maybe bring an Ark just to be on the safe side .. We do offer an alternative date which we don’t have to but try accommodate. Thanks for your kind review. Look forward to seeing you again soon.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Views beyond the campsite, location for WWT Arundel & NT Petworth & coast.

Disliked: Entrance to campsite looked like a shanty town! Toilets & showers not very clean & very cold as the radiators weren’t on. The chemical toilet tap was unusable as the top of the tap was missing.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Absolutely nothing

Disliked: The pub is closed - which is in no way clear with a site who's details start with 'fancy a pint ...' the site was waterlogged so we should have been refunded anyway but the owner expected us to just say on the path into the site with no-where for us to sit with our friends. The only other people on the site were people living there permanently. The site was run down and nothing like what was advertised. When we requested refund the owner refused and was rude. We had to find an alternative site and have lost the money from this one. Please don't fall into the trap of booking this site.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Nothing.

Disliked: We expected winter camping in Feb but this place is not suitable. The owner phoned as we were setting off to tell us to stay off the grass, the pub was shut and park on the road until he arrived, which he didn't. Being offered to park on a road doesn't work instead of a pitch. Overall the site is very delapidated with poor faciliities. The pub which is his main selling feature is not open. Owner has been contacted but from previous reviews here and on Trip Adviser he is not keen to resolve or receive feedback. On the plus side we found a very well run campsite nearby Sumners Pond.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Nothing. The area not site was lovely and quiet.

Disliked: Site was run down, toilets disgusting and never cleaned. Showers you had to pay. Mens toilets blocked the whole visit.Pub was shut and not being refurbished it was shut and we booked a hard standing pitch that turned out to be the road into it. We actually thought it was a traveler site when we arrived. Such a disappointing site and permanent pitches there for people living there with mouldy tents and dreadful appearance

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Close to many walking routes

Disliked: Booked here due to it being next to a pub which we were going to use for food - it was shut! Would not have booked this site if I had known. Facilities were basic, men’s toilets were flooded so they had to go into the closed pub to use them. It would have been useful to know how much time you got in the shower for your money. Finally, it was an absolute quagmire. We’ve camped in February in rainy weather before and expected to get a bit muddy but this was so bad. Power kept cutting out but there was no one around to talk to about it.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Summery … you stay in a tent in the middle of February when there’s nothing but storms sweeping across the country…….!!!!! complain because the grass was wet …. Best joke I’ve heard all year.. Yes problem with mens toilet plumbing but additional facilities provided in place ????? Cost of showers on booking site…. ????? Open your eyes.., Electric cut out because over loaded due to heaters … if you don’t like cold & wet ….. don’t go camping in the winter…. Derrrrrr SERIOUSLY……..

Average facilities, could be cleaner.

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: Owner friendly enough, but didnt really see much of him

Disliked: Although I accept there were staffing problems regarding pub, which can’t be helped, I only booked site for this reason. It was not open at all during our stay. It should be noted on the booking site that probably won’t be open until staffing resolved, as it has clearly been going on for a while. The showers are exceptionally small and had an added charge. I don’t mind paying extra if facilities good, but these were distinctly average. Weather conditions obviously not great at this time of year but site is generally a bit scruffy. Maybe better in summer but not great in winter as could not even go onto pitch, and had to stay on pathway. If opening in winter should reduce price.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Maybe if you opened your eyes you would see it was advertised that the pub was closed over Christmas.. At the time of your arrival you were happy enough to stay on the designated hard standing area not path.. It is the middle of winter freezing cold & wet …??? What do you expect the bloody tres to be in full blossom..?????? Seriously get a life & stop bloody complaining

Great site with clean facilities, helpful staff and excellent pub.

Camping pod

Liked: The ground was very wet as it was early December but we were able to park up on the hard services. The pod was comfortable and had a fridge and kettle and a small heater. There was a footpath to Billingshurst and a quicker route beside the road. The pub had a good menu and was full of character. Helpful and friendly staff and good facilities. There was no wifi but the reception was good.

Local attractions

Those with an eye on laidback rural days may like to try taking their binoculars for a wander at RSPB Pulborough Brooks nature reserve (10 minutes’ drive) or meeting rather larger winged beasts at Huxley’s Experience birds of prey centre (20 minutes). If you like a bit of historic house and pretty garden action, poke around at Petworth House and Park (15 minutes), take a ramble around Ramster Gardens (20 minutes) or plan a lengthy visit to Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens (25 minutes), a 240-acre listed estate with a dolls’ house museum and animals to meet. The gorgeous gardens at Nymans (25 minutes) are well worth a wander too. Those who’ve brought the nippers along for the ride might like to aim for a bit of cooing over fluffy beings at Fishers Farm Park (five minutes) or a ride on the South Downs Light Railway (10 minutes).
