  • Isle of Wight park with spectacular views and top-notch facilities
  • Relax in the garden conservatory or run amok with the kids
  • Shower and bathroom facilities with underfloor heating
'The best campsite we've ever stayed at' is just one of the excellent accolades piled upon the Isle of Wight's The Orchards Holiday Park, where guests feel in firm agreement with The Orchards' assessment of its facilities as 'top-notch'. Said facilities include toilets, showers, a family-sized bathroom and a washing-up area and launderette, all with underfloor heating. During busier times, the site also opens up a ladies' vanity area, a family shower room, a baby-changing room and wheelchair-accessible amenities. Things are top-notch leisurewise too, with a heated outdoor pool open from late May to late August, an indoor pool open all season, a poolside coffee shop, pool and ping pong tables and a recreation area. There are two play areas – one for under-fives and one for older kids – as well as a dog exercise area. And the views, the location and the atmosphere here all regularly get top billing here as well: The Orchards is a relaxed and friendly park with an amicable and helpful team, set near Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight's western rural side and coming with first-rate views (this is among the most scenic washing up you'll ever do). Finally, if you want to take the hassle out of ferry bookings on your journey to and from the island, the Orchards team can help arrange your travel: just let them know after you book.

From the manager: I am pleased to note that you were partly pleased with your stay and thank you for your feedback, I would like to give you a reply from our perspective.
Our facility block is so big and was designed to have parts closed down when the park isn't busy, this does help us with the upkeep and cleaning as well as heating etc.
The general ratio is that there should be one shower or bathroom available per 25 pitches and 2 ladies and 2 gents toilets per 30 pitches. We are currently offering one unisex bathroom with toilet and basin, one ladies shower with toilet and basin, one gents shower with toilet and basin, one unisex accessible shower with toilet and basin, one unisex toilet with basin and also a baby changing room which is open for all to use which also has a toilet and basin. This more than covers the local council requirements for availability of toilets and showers. I will ensure the maintenance team attend to the poor running water in the bathroom.
I will be sure to let Jack know that you were pleased with his service, we try our best to keep the basics but with just a dozen pitches occupied out of 120 we are unable to stock everything. We also find it hard to know what to stock when many guests have deliveries to the park from the super markets but we try our best not to be throwing stock away.
The same problem with the take away, they tend to open just at the weekend when the park is closed to keep their costs down. Our local pub the Horse & Groom which is just over a mile away does offer a take away service 7 days a week.
I appreciate that we are not for everyone and thank you again for your feedback.
Kind regards
Karen (General Manager)

Liked: Looked and felt like a holiday park - not just an open field. Electricity at the pitch. Grass pitch was well maintained. Bathrooms were clean, heated, always hot water, music while showering and washing up. Warm swimming pool. Pub close by. We and the 2 dogs really enjoyed our weekend.

Liked: Excellent site with flat pitch and a lovely view. Able to get out on our bikes with quiet roads.
Good to have a pool available to use and a take away and shop on site.
Very clean facilities.
Reception very helpful in helping us with directions to get to the site.

Disliked: Would of liked more choice in the take away.
Bins to be nearer to the pitches. They were all at the top as it was low season.

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us.

We were extremely quiet in October so unfortunately the take away were unable to offer a wide choice as they would during the main season, they close at the end of the month and do tend to reduce stock to avoid waste.

The bins have been relocated due to health & safety. We had previously towed them around the site but after a new risk assessment it was decided that it is too risky with the vehicle we have available. We would hate a "rogue" bin to break loose and cause damage to a guest, their property or a staff member. They were placed at the top as it's easy access for the waste disposal company to empty them and most touring guests would bring their refuse/recycling to the bins on their way out for the day.

We look forward to seeing you again.

Liked: Beautiful site with clean facilities, kids Loved the free pool with reasonable opening times without having to book. Shop open for essentials and take away was delicious & great value for money. Great location with field views. Free WiFi. Not too over crowded. Spaced pitches. Laundrette washers & dryers are of a high standard. Plentiful showers, sinks & loos never need to wait even at peak times in school holidays.

Disliked: None.

Local attractions

The Orchards Holiday Park is in west Wight, the more quiet and rural part of the island, but you won't have far to drive to get to all the other islandy attractions ('tis not a big place, the Isle of Wight). And even better news: The Orchards has discount deals arranged for guests with many of the local pubs and attractions. Staying west, miles of pathways can be investigated from the park by foot or pedal (maps as well as details on the team's favourite walks can be found at the park reception), as well as hikes along the coastline with wight pretty scenery and views of the Solent. The sandy beaches of Brook and Compton are a short drive away, as is Newtown Creek, a National Trust nature reserve brimming with birds, butterflies and boat photo opportunities. Also have a look at Chessell Pottery Barns, the Yarmouth outlet with gallery, activities, gift barn and café; or, for history, Calbourne Water Mill and Rural Museum, and the holiday home of Queen Victoria, Osborne House in East Cowes.
