Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Had a great stay. John and Marie were fantastic hosts. Couldn’t do enough for us on our stay. Toilets (compostable) and showers were clean and well maintained. The little shop stocked all the essentials and the gentle music around the communal seating and fire pit gave a nice festival vibe without encroaching on the peace and quiet across the rest of the site. Great location - 15 mins walk into the New Forest and 10 mins drive to the nearest beach. Looking forward to going back in the Summer.

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked: Everything! The staff were super friendly, the site well maintained, on-site food fabulous and the cleanest toilets I have ever seen (even though they were compost ones!)

Disliked: Did not stay long enough

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Great location, lovely people running it, nice little food van.

Disliked: We were in the field closest to the road and could hear the traffic, but it wasn't too bad. Just might choose one of the ones further back next time.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Everything about this site was great. The site owners were very friendly and visible throughout the stay. The toilets were excellent and didn't smell one bit! In fact all the facilities had been well thought out and serviced the site really well. Lovely sized site with generous, flat pitches. Fire pits and wood were a lovely optional extra.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Extremely helpful and friendly hosts. Very well organised setup with reception, washing up, showers and toilets. Great snacks and drinks selection as well as hot options! Very friendly site all round - a real sense of everyone being there with similar vibe! Really liked the classic car features and the recycling efforts - best setup I have seen at campsites, hostels etc to date! More places should be encouraging this approach - kids on site were loving the novelty of crushing their own cans for recycling!

Local attractions

Beach day, anyone? There are plenty of options for your daily dose of sand and sea. Milford on Sea beach (10 minutes’ drive) has very easy access in the high season. You might want to practise your bodyboarding at Highcliffe beach (15 minutes), paddle at Mudeford beach (15 minutes) or indulge in watersports at Avon beach (15 minutes). Other places for a dip (or a snooze and some sandcastle building if you’re feeling like a lazier day) are Sandbanks beach (45 minutes) and Boscombe beach (half an hour). Bournemouth (35 minutes) has plenty of seaside entertainment too, as well as an aquarium with a penguin enclosure. As for the quirky stuff, the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum (five minutes) has a collection of restored motorcycles, including factory racers and exotic prototypes. Arty types might want to visit the Forest Arts Centre (five minutes) too. Put some peaceful walks in your plans too… there’s plenty to explore around the 24-acre Steamer Point Nature Reserve (15 minutes). It’s close to Highcliffe Castle (15 minutes), a grand Grade I-listed mansion that will add in some history.
