Swimming and diving on site
The grass pitch
Entrance to site

  • Peaceful site near the River Hamble: two pubs within walking distance
  • Six miles from Southampton and 12 from Portsmouth's ferry terminal
  • Set in scuba diving and open-water swimming lake grounds
Get set to get wet… with the Solent coast a couple of miles away, the Hamble river down the road and of course the lake on site, it’s safe to say that life pretty much revolves around the water at Andark Lake, a small and quiet grassy site six miles from the centre of Southampton. The main focal point here is the purpose-built scuba diving training lake, where wetsuit-clad types can sign up for training courses (when pre-booked) or recreational dives, hire kit and fill air tanks (for certified scuba divers). Open-water swims can be had for an extra charge at the weekends, when staff are on site and the place isn't in use by divers. Outside of swim time, there’s more water-based activity (sailing, paddleboarding, kitesurfing and windsurfing) along the riverside or at Swanwick Marina. Should all this aquatic activity have worked up a bit of a hunger, trot over to the site café for snacks and light lunches, plus hot and cold drinks throughout the day. For your evening meals, three pubs are within walking distance, or you can pick up supermarket supplies two miles away for a sunset sausage sizzle. Other amenities on site include a drinking water tap and a toilet block with male and female changing rooms, lockers and showers, all open 24/7. A coldwater sink is available in the pitching field where guests can wash pots and pans, and an accessible toilet is available on request.

  • Lake open-water swimming is not included in the rate and is charged at £7 per person for a day ticket . Swimming is only available Wednesday to Sunday. No swimming while divers are in the lake. The lake must not be used after hours or when no staff are on site, as it's a deep diving training lake and can be dangerous. Dogs are not allowed in the lake at any time.

Powered grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked: Got WiFi

Disliked: Pitches were rubbish , the electric hook up was literally just a cable . We took the dogs for a walk in the woods and there were broken asbestos sheets laying around , these are highly dangerous!!! This is not suitable for motorhome.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: That it wasn’t busy and the showers and toilets were kept nice.

Disliked: The camping field feels secondary to the public using the lake for sports.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Convenient for the weekend course at the lake.

Disliked: Track needs attention as its rutted and car slid trying to go up the hill. Grass hasn't been mown for weeks, needs some attention around pitches and main access routes. Open air sink with cold water is a poor offering.

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked: The lake and pitch location, main gate security, toilet and shower facilities, cafe food and service

Disliked: The actual pitch is not accurately measured out, the pitch (13) is also very uneven. Washing up facilites are very poor and basic, electric hook up is not a safe set up and slung over the fence, in terms of car parking next to pitch is ok, but the field is rather slanted and in nad weather, parking and moving a car is slippery and potentially dangerous

Powered grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked: Flat pitch for Motorhome. Warm, dry and clean shower and toilet blocks. Quite spot during the night. Short journey to Portsmouth ferry terminal. Great dive centre if you want to learn to dive.

Powered grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked: The pitch was good and level

Disliked: The toilets were soaking. They come in with a hose and spray down the whole shower, toilet and changing area! Not great as they don’t dry and remove the access water so it stays soaking. So when trying to change after a shower you’re trying to change on a soaking floor. Only place to wash your dishes is in a sink in the field. No hot water, no shelter or lights (when eating later in the evening and needing to clean your dishes)

Primitive grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked: Lovely location safe & secure excellent over night stop for Southampton ferry. Hamble Valley literally down the lane across the road. MO/HO pitches very small with limited space as main road to tent camping runs between the pitches. You have to pay extra to use the lake not free for campers this was disappointing. Cafe and toilet block good but share the showers with all public swimmers not ideal for small children. Was okay for overnight stay. Dog friendly.

Disliked: Size of pitch/extra payment to use lake. 2 x showers to share with all public swimmers & scuba diving club.
