  • Eight acres of leafy parkland a mile from Milford on Sea
  • Free entry to club and leisure facilities of sister park nearby
  • Near Paultons Park and Peppa Pig World
Leafy parkland, a seaside village and what can only be described as blessed peace are all waiting for you at Lytton Lawn Touring Park, set in eight acres of serenity a mile from Milford on Sea. This is a Shorefield Holidays park, so is self-contained and with all the up-to-date amenities you’d expect for a 21st-century getaway, but as the site is set up to be quiet it has no gym, bar, disco or swimming pool – perfect for peaceful contemplation under the trees. After you pack the kids off to the play area, sit back with your favourite tipple and relax in the south coast sun. Fear not though if the kids do get twitchy or you think you might fancy raising your energy level (within reason) after all – pitch fees at Lytton give you free access to the club and health and fitness facilities at Shorefield Country Park two and a half miles away: take your pick from splashing around in the pool, steaming up in the sauna, lazing at the outdoor pool (open seasonally) with heated kids' beach area, or just turning up for food, tipples or the fantastic nightly entertainment. Spoilt for choice? Go along to one of the regular daytime activities instead, offering big fun for little ones, including everything from pottery painting, pizza making and slime school to stuffing your very own bear (activities must be booked in advance; extra charges apply).

FHU gravel and cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (premium)

Liked: Welcome on arrival was lovely, Manager was very friendly and helpful. Pitches were good size and well kept. Site is laid out well, and great to have a secure dog field. Our pitch was next to a road, but to be honest it wasn’t that noisy, certainly didn’t disturb us. Toilet/shower blocks were ok, bit dated but always very clean. Shop was great, nice to be able to pre-order croissants etc for next day.

Disliked: Nothing

Disliked: I thought that for £60 a night the site would have been better. We were given a rubbish pitch on a corner plot and the toilet / shower block was dated and dirty .

Liked: We were travelling in our campervan our pitch was a good size. The showers and toilet was clean. The site is very well organised with a great shop and bakery. I recommend to order your fresh baked goods in advance. We unfortunately missed out. The site is so close to Milford on Sea a lovely town. We had bought our bikes and had some fantastic rides along the costal tracks to Key Haven and Lymington. The site was a great location We will be back

FHU gravel and cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite (premium)

Liked: Well kept pitches, good size. Good shop which sold essentials. Good location and nice and quiet.

Disliked: Showers were Luke warm, they are in need of an update, they were mouldy, quite small and needed a good scrub! The cleaning bucket left in the toilet area was full of brown, dirty water which was quite off putting! We had an awning that we use with our campervan and we’re not told till we were almost set up that it couldn’t go on the grass, we did compromise and not put the ground sheet down so we didn’t kill the grass. Would have been nice to know this in advance!

Local attractions

The first stop outside the park should be seaside village Milford on Sea for boat hire, beach walking, watersports and the all-essential ice cream: take a look from the beach for The Needles of the Isle of Wight or go east to the boat yard and bird sanctuary at Keyhaven. Historical types can also make their way by foot or ferry to Hurst Castle, built by Not So Good King Henry VIII to guard the Solent all those years ago. The scenery around Lytton Lawn means there’s gallons of good sightseeing, cycling and walking, such as the bike trip to Lymington along the coastal cycle path, or all sorts of hikes and nature-spotting around the nearby New Forest. And it wouldn’t be a seaside holiday without taking in more beaches: there are striking sand dunes and a woodland nature trail at Sandbanks Beach, where you can also cross to the National Trust’s Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour. Little piggies will just have to go to nearby Paultons Park to gawp at Peppa Pig World and they might also clamour for a day at Putlake Adventure Park or go wide-eyed at Liberty’s Owl and Raptor Centre; once you’ve earned your Brownie points at these you can trade off for some of the many grown-up attractions nearby: Christchurch Priory, Exbury Gardens and Beaulieu Motor Museum and Village should hit all the historical and cultural highs. For urban times (and more beaches), Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch are all within driving distance, and anyone down in this corner of the world will be well rewarded with a ferry trip across to the eye-watering Isle of Wight.
