  • Dog-friendly farm site between Cranborne Chase and the New Forest
  • A 10-minute drive to New Forest Water Park; half an hour to the coast
  • Behind a working water mill and tea rooms; pubs and shops nearby too
Craving watersports, treetop obstacle courses and cycle-easy forest paths? With Cranborne Chase on one side and New Forest on the other, Leat Farm is all about a relaxing retreat in the outdoors. That’s certainly what you get, as the dog-friendly farm site is part of a working smallholding and timber yard on the river Allen with a clear chalk stream, plenty of plant life and a working Stenner sawmill over 100 years old. You'll blend properly into farm life here, thanks to the site’s two horses (Bobbie and Cobby), four goats and a small band of turkeys nearby. At the same time, won't be too far away from the buzz, whether that's the beach or city – within driving distance, there’s Salisbury (half an hour’s drive), Southampton (50 minutes), Bournemouth (half an hour) Christchurch (25 minutes) and Poole (45 minutes). As for the local town, well, from Fordingbridge (five minutes), there’s a fair few adventures to be had and that’s not counting a trip down taste lane (restaurants, shops and pubs are in plentiful supply). There are riding stables, a park, woodland archery and a little further out, the New Forest Water Park (10 minutes) for a good go at wakeboarding, paddleboarding and other watersports. When you’re looking for something a little closer by, the site is behind Alderholt Mill, a working watermill with tearooms (a breakfast spot, maybe?). To the north of the site, there’s also a trout fishery five minutes' drive away.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The stay was amazing, Donna who owned the land was really nice and helpful, she was kind and very polite which helped us have a better stay, she was checking in on us and making sure everything was ok and if we needed anything or anything that she could help with, the stay was amazing had toilet and shower which was also good for the kids to wash etc, the weather helped as that was also lovely, we all had such amazing time and will 100% be booking up to go again. The price was also really good for the whole weekend to stay. Thank you for a great time.

Disliked: There was no dislikes. We all enjoyed our time spent at the camp.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Able to pick your own pitch, ground is in good condition. Friendly welcome from staff. Clean site, great location, skittles and tennis net good addition

Disliked: Only 1 female toilet with no light working, and 1 working shower, but not a big deal for us but was bit of a Que. I think there was a party or something in the nearby field on the Saturday night music was blasting to. 3am but that’s not the campsites fault but didn’t sleep too good that night

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Easy going campsite, nothing over the top, if you want something basic this is a good option, family liked the animals at the site, plenty of space, not too busy, flat ground without rocks

Disliked: Shower facilities were poor (one working very basic shower for the entire campsite), toilet facilities were basic (cold water, no lights), probably should have been cheaper for what it was, one step away from wild camping in a field

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Toilets and showers onsite. Site was easily accessible (limited windy thin roads). Was close to bigger towns. Had some animals on site which were very friendly.

Disliked: A bit too overcrowded for my liking. And unfortunately lots of other groups that did not respect the 10pm quiet hours, which one group having music on throughout the night. We did message the host but unfortunately the issue wasn’t resolved. Also not enough toilets for the number of groups they have stay. And only 1 of 2 showers was working.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Big open fields, lots of space to pitch up. Dog friendly. The lady running it was lovely. Fire pits and wood available if needed at a small charge. Lots of walks nearby. Overall had a lovely 2 night stay would definitely go back.

Disliked: Only 1 shower, if staying for a longer time would have been good to have 2 or 3.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: It was nice to be able to pick you own spot and not rush to check out,

Disliked: Toilets are aweful, no lights at night and when it rains the decking outside is like an ice rink. There is one cold showe and one hot shower, not enough for the amount of people that was there, a good 40 min que one morning . There is one washing up station, we’ll sink, with no hot water just cold.
