  • Small family-run East Sussex site between Hailsham and Polegate
  • Eastbourne, Drusillas Park and South Downs within 15 minutes' drive
  • Access to Cuckoo Trail via footpath; walk/bike on paths to the towns
Take a slice of the easy life in East Sussex with a stay at Peel House Farm – this compact family-run site is surrounded by peaceful farmland, but it’s only a few minutes’ drive from both Hailsham and Polegate for handy access to shops, places to eat and other amenities. You can also reach both towns in a few minutes by bike, along a gravel/tarmac path of a mile, making this a suitable site for those travelling without a car (Polegate has a railway station, and there are bus connections to Hailsham). Even closer than either of those towns is the Cuckoo Trail, a popular 14-mile mostly traffic-free trail that makes a wonderful way to see some of the local scenery. It’s easily accessed from the site via a public footpath. More places to walk? You’ll be in prime position between the South Downs National Park and the High Weald National Landscape, so there are plenty of options nearby. And with the coast just a few miles away as well, you can also take strolls around Eastbourne, Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters cliffs. Pick up supplies while you’re out and about, because barbecues are permitted on site and make a lovely way to finish your outdoor day. There’s a small play area and a recreation field on site where kids can tire themselves out for a decent night’s sleep, and the bathroom block has been thoughtfully kitted out with heating and family-sized cubicles with baby-changing facilities. The covered washing-up area has hot water, and you’ll also have access to wifi if you need it.

Primitive grass and earth campsite

Liked: Lovely meadow, beautiful views, peaceful nights. Kids loved it. Friendly owner. We had a lovely day out down to the Seven Sisters.

Disliked: We had to leave quickly and a day early due to unforseen circumstances at home. We were sad to go!

Power optional grass campsite

Liked: A quiet site. Near the Cuckoo Trail.

Disliked: The facilities were not worth a charge of £40 a night! The showers are in need of an upgrade: the water dispensing button cuts out after 5 seconds and the ventilation system wasn’t working. Our motorhome was put on rough grass that hadn’t been mown for a couple of weeks, between two scruffy static caravans. Asking about grey water disposal, we were told by a member of the staff that there wasn’t any and we should just chuck our water in the hedge! We only found out on leaving that there is, in fact, waste water disposal but it wasn’t obvious or labelled.

Primitive grass and earth campsite

Liked: This is a fantastic little camp site, it has great facilities, feels safe and secure, it’s quiet and well looked after. The toilet and shower block is well kept, there is a little breakfast van serving things like bacon sandwiches which smelled amazing. The owner was really friendly and helpful - he gave the kids some apples as we left, my 5yr old was very impressed that they were from a real tree! The site was pretty full but it didn’t feel too busy, there was plenty of space and we had a lovely spot down at the end of the no EHU field. It was great, we would have stayed longer, and will visit again.

Disliked: Drive slow as you approach, I missed the turning! The sign is obvious once you see it, but it’s off a pretty speedy country lane.
