Primitive grass tent campsite (riverside)

Liked: The Riverside spot was quiet, had a tap and toilet facilities, very chilled and beautiful surroundings! If you walk further down the lane there are nice views of the stream and gully. The member of staff who greeted us was very welcoming and helpful too

Power optional grass tent campsite

Liked: Amazing campsite with amazing views! Everyone is very friendly and the toilets/showers are extremely clean. Lovely little waterfall to swim in 5 minutes from the campsite. Not too far from the town centre. We will be coming back

Camping pod (no pets)

Liked: Third visit to this site, stayed in a pod , as usual everything clean & tidy shower block well looked after & maintained , nice & quiet on a night ( unlike some sites) an ideal base for exploring the mountains of the Lakes & easily accessible from the A66 , we’ll be back.

Disliked: Nothing really

Primitive grass tent campsite (riverside)

Liked: Really enjoyed my stay here. A lively site with a working farm, and lots of other different types of accommodation. Very tidy place and excellent shower block. It's a good place for getting to other spots. Keswick 15 minutes, Ullswater 15 minutes, Ambleside only 35 minutes.

Kipper cabin

Liked: Beautiful traditional log cabin set in wonderful woodland with abundance of birds to see and listen to. Also able to spot red squirrels at the feeders! Love the opportunity to have cosy log fire in the cabin and firepit while sitting outside. Plenty of seating areas both inside and outside. Love the feeling that you’re away from other people but can use the campsite facilities if you want to. Always made to feel welcome and at home by the owners.

Primitive grass tent campsite (riverside)

Liked: This is a very well kept site which is great value for money. The toilets and showers were spotless. The view was great, we were camping in the field at the top which is best for the sunset. It was very quiet and peaceful as there were young families so it was quiet by 10pm and we slept very well. The alpaca farm just down the road has a cafe that does a good breakfast. Pooley bridge a 15 min drive away.

Powered grass and gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked: Beautiful location, clean facilities with super hot showers. Nice pub 20 min walk away. Friendly, family run site. Baby cows and a waterfall!

Disliked: Quite close to the A66, got used to the low traffic hum very quickly.

Local attractions

Ullswater is the nearest of the lakes at 10 minutes’ drive away, so that’s as good a place to start as any – stop by at Aira Force waterfall on your way down there, then get down to the lake itself for waterside walks, steamer cruises and various watersports – or even a wild swim if you’re feeling brave. Over on the banks of Derwentwater, Keswick (15 minutes’ drive) is another good place to explore, with a brewery, The Puzzling Place and the Derwent Pencil Museum as well as boat trips and paddleboards to hire. Walkers of all varieties have much to choose from around here, from gentle lakeside wanders to uphill scrambles at Blencathra and Helvellyn, both of which are close by. The folk on the farm are happy to suggest routes to suit – or point you towards the likes of Dalemain Mansion (15 minutes), Mirehouse & Gardens (20 minutes) or Lowther Castle (25 minutes) for stately-home strolls.
