Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Friendly check in with good info given. Spacious and quiet plenty of room on pitch and between with space for children to play around. Great views and walks with town very local and easy to walk to.

Disliked: Lack of toilets - two in each changing room so only access to 2 most of the time as other licked off while showers being used. No soap in main toilets for most of the stay

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Absolutely amazing, spectacular scenery, 5 minute walk into such a beautiful quaint little town of Kirby lonsdale, which has lots of small traditional pubs and restaurants. The rugby club itself was fantastic, excellent for all ages, families and just like us enjoying a little get away in the lakes. Would highly recommend anyone to stay here, especially if you want to tour the Lake district. 5*

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: We had a lovely last minute night away. We was welcomed on arrival and was kindly informed where everything was. Toilets and showers clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The views are exceptional and the location is great. Close to the village where we walked to for Saturday night drinks. We stopped off at the Orange Tree pub on our way to the village and stopped off again on the way back. Such friendly staff there too. Please try out their breakfast which needed booking but was also fantastic. The campsite has been taken over and nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely stay again xx

Local attractions

There's a bit of a scrum over Kirkby Lonsdale, with the Lakes, the Dales and even the Forest of Bowland all claiming the town as their gateway… and why not indeed… There are many fine old inns among the 17th- and 18th-century houses of this handsome old market town, and visitors to the 11th-century church should find peace and reflection. With the river flowing right through, you're well placed to go fishing or paddle a canoe downstream; paths make for excellent easy riverside rambling too. Head half an hour north and you'll hit Windermere. Take in the view, then take a walk: at the top of the lake, Ambleside (45 minutes' drive) is a hub for many paths up the high tarns and fells. Clamouring for your attention to the east, the three peaks of the Yorkshire Dales are in easy reach, with Ingleborough closest (half an hour). If you don't fancy going up, head down to the fab caves instead. Meanwhile, armchair adventurers can settle in a comfy berth on the scenic Settle-Carlisle railway starting in, er, Settle (an hour's drive) or see the lakes from the decks of a steamer on Windermere.
