  • Lake District pop-up site in the foothills of Blencathra
  • Keswick, Skiddaw and Helvellyn all within a 10-minute drive
  • Simple, spacious pitches with a stream for paddling
The owners of Low Hollows reckon they’ve got one of the most stunning locations in the Lake District… and it’s easy to see why they love it. This Cumbria pop-up site is in the foothills of Blencathra, so it’s a scenic place, and it’s easy to get to as well – it's just a little way off the A66. That handy position means that it’s easy to get to the village of Threlkeld, a mile away, for two excellent pubs and a coffee shop – or continue on to the bigger market town of Keswick, less than 10 minutes’ drive away. The Keswick to Penrith bus route stops in the village too, so you can get out and about easily without taking the car. And where might your outings take you? Well, it’s all about the open air around here: climbing, horse riding, canoeing and shooting are all within five miles, and there’s a golf course less than a mile away. Cyclists can head out on the C2C (Coast to Coast) route from the village, while walkers take strolls along the Keswick to Threlkeld railway line path. More intrepid types can tick off several Lakeland fells nearby, including Skiddaw and Helvellyn as well as Blencathra. Sounds rather like you’ll need time to chill out back on site – and handily there’s plenty of space for that, plus a stream for soothing tired feet. Barbecues are permitted on the pitches, and you’re welcome to bring dogs and kids (there’s a whole lot of field for them to scamper about in). Facilities are on the low-key side, with just showers and toilets (two of each for the ladies and gents) and a washing-up area.

Liked: Such a beautiful time...reconnecting to nature, in a stunning location surrounded by the Lakeland fells. We found a lovely flat spot near the river, it was the most relaxed I've felt in a long time. Great hot showers, wash up points and relaxed space...

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Good location and easy to reach, nice option to have fire pit for rent which was great, toilets were clean and well kept and showers were lovely and hot, didn’t have to wait too long for showers etc. Washing up area was clean and well stocked. Host was so friendly and helpful too! Highly recommend the railway walk from Threlkeld to Keswick, it’s lovely! And the pub in Threlkeld, Horse and Farrier, is definitely worth a visit

Disliked: Would be good to have gloves to carry down the fire pits, and perhaps a bin at the top to empty the ash into when we returned it! Just to save you a job, would’ve been more than happy to do that!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Plenty of space on the campsite Great location Great views of Blencathra Decent hot showers Plenty of space to pitch your tent away from other campers. Easy access to the Northern lakes. Good price compared to other Lake District campsites which are becoming a rip off for a solo campers that just require a basic tent pitch, toilet and a hot shower

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The location was beautiful, surrounded by mountains and we decided to pitch up in the bottom field beside the river. The facilities were very clean, with the toilets and shower block situated in an old barn conversion. A place for people to meet and charge their devices if necessary. Very clean and spacious.

Disliked: I would have preferred a hairdryer to be available but it's nothing major and doesn't take away from the lovely stay.
