  • A small, quite, friendly site for those wanting to escape the hustle
  • Back to basics campsite, below Skiddaw and above Bassenthwaite Lake
  • Great for backpackers, bikepackers and families alike & dog friendly
Set at the foot of Skiddaw in the hills above Bassenthwaite Lake, just outside of Keswick, Kestrel Lodge Campsite provides a great base for outdoor adventures. Our ethos is quite simple, we are a small, friendly and quite site offering that great basic camping experience, for you to relax and unwind after a long adventure in the outdoors. All pitches include a fire pit or access to the communal fire pit, because there is nothing like sitting round a campfire when camping! We just ask that you purchase the firewood from reception. There is an undercover area for those rainy days, hot showers at no extra cost, and a small honesty shop onsite. We're just off the beaten track, so it's quiet and beautifully remote yet still close to so many walks. We're a dog friendly site, but we do ask dogs are kept on leads at all times. We have a seperate enclosed dog field, so you can let your dog off in there for a run around. If you like animals, there are free roaming ducks and chickens on site, they'll probably wander over and say hello as they are a nosey bunch. As well as listening to the resident hedgerow birds and evening owl calls, you'll also see Red Squirrels and Deer in the nearby woods. Its a great site for backpackers, bikepackers and familes alike. Due to us being a small, quiet site, we don't allow groups. A maximum of two families or 5 adults together, this keeps our site friendly and welcoming for all. We also don't allow music of any kind on site, so you can sit back listen to the sounds of nature and stargaze in peace. The cars are parked seperate to the tent, so you can pitch up and forget about the car if you wish and take many walks direct from the site. Whether is lots of walking from the tent you want, or visiting the many attractions the Lake District has to offer we're perfectly placed. We have discounts for customers for visiting the theatre or local watersports hire, as well as many recommendations for cafés and pubs in the area.
