  • Small CAMC members-only site in Cumbria, a mile from Levens
  • In the Lake District National Park, 15 mins' drive from Windermere
  • Gravel electric pitches with a top-notch food pub next door
Trying to find a handy Cumbria stopover close to main roads or a useful base for a longer break spent exploring the southern part of the Lake District National Park? Either way, if you're a Caravan and Motorhome Club member, River Gilpin at Valley End Certificated Location would be a sound choice. This small site (for CAMC members only) is a quiet place with just a handful of touring pitches, all of which have electric hook-up points and lovely scenic views. Shared facilities include wifi, an outdoor washing-up area and a smart toilet and shower block. Just inside the boundaries of the Lake District National Park, this is a semi-rural location with easy access from the A590 and A5074. The village of Levens is just over a mile away – but more importantly the local pub is pretty much next door (and it's a popular one too, with a menu of locally sourced food as well as a good range of drinks). With several walking trails in the area around Levens, this is a good base for exploring some of the local scenery; there are also a couple of historic houses very close by, or you can get to the shores of Windermere with a 15-minute drive.

What customers say

This is a small, well-kept site with great, modern showers and spacious pitches. It’s conveniently located for the Lakes, with a good pub nearby. While some found it pricey with mixed toilet/shower facilities and road noise, the manager assures mirrors are being added and improvements are ongoing at this new spot.

Liked Immaculate, tidy and well kept site with only 5 pitches. 2 bathrooms available all very spacious and clean.
Spare spaces for cars to park in as well as large pitches for cars.
Private site as it has an a electronic barrier to get in and out.
Free WiFi is a bonus for us as our son cant live with out.
The owners were very well communicated with and very friendly. Thanks Michaela!
Location is ideal if trying to go to the lakes and Kendal.
Kids play house and outdoor cleaning station available. There is a chemical waste disposal and drinking water disposal.
Give the campsite 9.5 out of 10.
Certainly coming back and would reccomend to others. Our son is autistic with physical disabilities and this site was just perfect for us as a family.

Disliked This is minor issue but a hose for the chemical waste to rinse things would be beneficial but we managed.

Liked Nice well kept site. Clean shower/toilet facilities. Nice views of Lake District. Decent pub next door. Good location close to places in lakes and Grange, Arnside etc.

Disliked Bit of road noise but not too intrusive. Wet room shower and water all over floor a couple of times. Think shower drain was blocked but was rectified quickly.

Liked Brilliant pitches, lots of space for the van. Easy to book, with email and SMS confirmation. Really clean bathrooms and modern facilities. Next door to a nice pub, really friendly staff and good pub menu.

Disliked Limited toilets if the pitches are full, only one male bathroom and shower.

Liked Clean, convenient location.

Disliked The price was high compared on a like for like basis at other sites we stay on. There was no washing facility on the chemical waste. Toilet and shower were not secured by combination lock and it looked like someone else ( we were the only people on the site) had/were using the toilets.

Liked Excellent little site, only 5 pitches, but lovely, we had the site to ourselves for 4 nights, lovely en-suite style facilities. Lovely pub almost next door, just a 2 minute walk, served great food.
Would definitely recommend.
Easy access from the A590, just 5/10 minutes from the M6

Disliked Nothing to dislike, there was some road noise, but it didn’t disturb us at all.

Advertised as fully serviced pitches, but only had electric hook up on the pitch, which made it quite expensive in comparison to other CAMC sites.

Only telephone and email contact with management, but no issues.
