  • Small, peaceful family-owned holiday park in the Western Lake District
  • Cockermouth 10 minutes’ drive; Solway Coast at Allonby 15 minutes
  • Kids’ play area, basics store, post office, bar and bistro on site
If you’re after small and exclusive in the Western Lake District, then The Beeches Caravan Park is as small and exclusive as can be. This quiet family-owned park is in the small village of Gilcrux, within easy reach of everything the region has to offer. The grass pitches on the park are available all year round, and the site has lots of handy facilities including a post office and a basics store, and a bar and bistro at the site entrance as well as a pub right across the road. Spotless showers and a laundry room next to reception plus a grassy playground and activity centre for the kids complete the roster of amenities – so if it wasn’t for the siren call of the Lake District and its manyfold attractions, there’s very little reason to stir from your cosy roost once you’ve arrived and got settled in on your pitch. Now about those attractions. There’s a riding school and trout farm in Gilcrux, and The Beeches is close to the childhood home of William Wordsworth at Cockermouth (10 minutes’ drive), near the Solway Coast (15 minutes) and within easy travelling distance of spectacular scenery and great hiking, mountain biking and fishing on lakes including Derwentwater and Buttermere (both 40 minutes).

Liked Toilets and shower were spotless and really close to the touring pitch.

Disliked The campervan pitches are seperate from the main site and it seemed a bit like camping on a car park. There was nobody to show us our pitch, we were just told over the phone where to park. Shop rarely seems to be open.
