  • Farm site on the Cheshire Plain, two miles from Tattenhall
  • Chester, Peckforton Castle and Tarporley all within a 20-minute drive
  • Farm shop and café on site selling meals to eat in or take away
What’s for dinner? A homemade quiche perhaps, or a couple of steaks to chuck on the barbie? Take your pick, for these are among the goodies on offer at Manor Farm Caravan Park. In fact, plentiful are the foodie rewards for those who choose to settle here – while you’re in the shop it’d be a fine idea to invest in some of their bacon and prize-winning sausages for brekkie, or perhaps to devolve duties to the professionals by grabbing a meal in the coffee shop. Manor Farm is a family-owned working farm on 200 aces on the Cheshire Plain, eight miles from the centre of Chester. Sheep, horses and dogs reside on site, as well as a herd of cattle. There’s little here to distract you from the important business of rural relaxation – facilities have been kept to a minimum but include a spankingly clean bathroom block with toilets and showers. Countryside pursuits around here can include rambles on the Sandstone Trail, canalside wanders or less strenuous walks to the village of Tattenhall, which is about a half-hour stroll away for local shops and pubs. Castles, a golf course and forest walks are a short drive away; if you prefer to roam by public transport, buses pass by the site to whisk guests off to Chester or Whitchurch.

Local attractions

If you wish to wander, there are plenty of places to stretch the legs around here: the 34-mile Sandstone Trail passes nearby, as does the towpath alongside the Shropshire Union Canal. The walking and bike paths of Delamere Forest are about 20 minutes away by car. Should you require a treat at the end of your walk, you might consider hiking to Beeston Castle (about an hour and a quarter away on foot) and returning via The Ice Cream Farm, where you can select from around 40 fab flavours; it’s also a fab place to entertain tinies with farm animals and play areas. For a bit more history, Peckforton Castle and Bolesworth Castle are both about 10 minutes’ drive away, and the medieval walls and half-timbered houses are around 15 minutes away. The excellent Chester Zoo is about a 20-minute drive away.

Robin primitive grass campsite

Liked: Was a bit sceptical after reading the reviews but we were struggling for a campsite that would take commercial vehicles. There was actually no need to worry. We got there later than anticipated but the young lady on reception was so helpful and pleasant. She sorted is with a fire pit and logs, explained everything we needed to know with a smile. Site was very quiet, no rowdy campers. Facilities were great for what we needed. Just wished we had ordered a breakfast in the cafe as the food in there looked great.

Disliked: Nothing. The only reason why I didn’t give 5 stars for all is because we would normally stay somewhere with activities or play area for the children.

Robin primitive grass campsite

Liked: Quiet.

Disliked: The pitch up write up is old. There is no proper farm shop on site. No fire wood available. Quite a lot of dog poo around the site.

Hawk powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Everything off the site, fabulous walk through 6 fields to the pub Brilliant for our dogs, nice pub and fab meal, lamb Sunday roast, aunt Bessie’s roasties and for mash was smash but loads of lamb, enjoyed it . Downside was the mud, it was shocking. Ok ok it’s been a crap summer but this was our 1st (and last) ever pitch with awning on grass. Brand new caravan covered in mud despite changing shoes, awning inside splattered with mud just from walking in it. Would come back but only if awning was hard standing but apparently it shuts end of august so maybe not eh

Disliked: Mud, showers and men’s sit down loo, only 1 and once in it was hard to get out

Badger powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite (large)

Liked: Good location, 4 buses each day and 4 back to and from Norwich. Lovely pub nearby, peaceful location once the nearby works have finished their labours at 6pm, start at 7am. Very reasonably priced at £10 per night, clean, basic toilet facilities and lovely, friendly owner.

Robin primitive grass campsite

Liked: Great flat grassed area to pitch in. Lovely farm shop and cafe with WiFi. Friendly accommodating staff. Good value site but a few difficulties when camping with toddler age children. Would have been at least 4 star if we would have visited as a couple only.

Disliked: Toilet and shower facilities were small with no facilities for disabled or group family change/shower. Washing up facilities in open air🪴, not a problem however the whole weekend was rainy so would have preferred a shelter for washing up.

Liked: Lovely site on a farm. We were on hardstanding with ehu. Bus stop literally outside to Chester. Fab cafe and shop at very reasonable prices. Nice little shower block and toilets as well as washing-up area. Staff were really friendly & helpful. Will definitely stay there again.
