What customers say
This woodland campsite offers a near-wild camping experience with private, well-spaced sites and a strong focus on nature. Visitors praise the friendly staff, spotless washrooms, and peaceful, secluded atmosphere. Ideal for nature lovers and families seeking adventure, with opportunities for wildlife spotting and campfires. No showers, and some found carrying gear a challenge, but overall very positive with many planning return visits.

Focus on nature and ecology, lovely…
Small clearings primitive forest floor tent campsite (woodland)
Liked Focus on nature and ecology, lovely natural woodland, lots of birds singing! Pitches are well spaced and give privacy from other campers. Nice toilets and wheelbarrows to transport kit from car to pitch. Owner was very friendly and knowledgeable with a passion for nature and he shared lots of interesting information.
Disliked Hidden extra charge for having a campfire - on Pitchup it doesn’t tell you anywhere I could find that there is a £7 charge to have your own fire. There are other optional extras to select on Pitchup, but fire is not one of them so it’s not possible to add this to your booking in advance. You will have to pay this on arrival. Owner insisted it was stated but I couldn’t find it. Owner agreed to waive the charge, which was appreciate, but it’s something to be aware of!
The owner also comes into each camp at night and checks everyone is not burning their wood and that they are following the fire rules. This is for safety and to protect the woodland, so the reason is understandable, but if you prefer a wild camping feel and to be left alone at your pitch, this site may not be for you.
There is also a large horse paddock along one side of the site which smells very badly of manure. Unfortunately, our pitch was the other side of the wall to the horses and so the smell of manure was constant. So you may want to ask to be placed away from this side if you don’t like the smell of horse manure!

Large clearings primitive forest floor tent campsite (woodland)
Liked great pitches in the woodland setting. very peaceful.
Disliked understandably, there are a lot of restrictions camping in a protected woodland. we felt a bit limited about what we could do and explore as a result.

Liked Super friendly hosts, lovely site with loads of care and attention for nature and wildlife. The dawn chorus of birds was wonderful, there were so many species!
If you like hammock camping, this site is great, lots of suitable trees in the upper woodland pitches.

If you want a “real” camping experience this is the place to go!
Large clearings primitive forest floor tent campsite (woodland)
Liked Fantastic campsite. Real authentic camping. Staff are friendly and helpful. Toilets were always clean. Pitch size was great (we had a large clearing). Also added the parachute which was great coverage when it rained. The pitches are set out far enough away from each other so you’re in your own space. Great local walks to venture out. Not far away from shops and pubs. Great for kids too with plenty of designated wood to build dens and enjoy the outdoors. We are usually “field” type campers this experience change our perspective on what camping is really about.
Disliked Nothing for us personally to dislike.

Really nice stay again overall, slightly…
Small clearings primitive forest floor tent campsite (woodland)
Liked Really nice stay again overall, slightly preferred my previous pitch when I last stayed here but overall nothing beats being in the woods with the birds singing and squirrels coming over to say hello in the morning. The staff are all lovely.
Disliked Unfortunately positioned a bit close to another couple who spent the entire evening loudly arguing with each other which slightly spoilt my enjoyment. Obviously it's the luck of the draw on any campsite. Some paper towels in the bathroom would be nice as the water is freezing cold at this of year so not fun to go out with wet hands.
