Powered cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite

Liked: The location is in a delightful river valley with a short walk to most local amenities. The sites are well distributed so not too close. Easy to connect to the electrical services. Reasonable prices. The facilities were basic but sufficiently warm and well maintained. The floors in the toilet/shoer rooms needed a mop after every use as muddy footprints would be carried in. Overall a pleasant site that I would use again, Thank you

Disliked: Maybe it’s because it’s my first time to be sleeping in my motor home. I expected a little more information about the site and exactly where things would be located. On my arrival I found it difficult to find the owner. Eventually I was successful in attracting the attention of a very pleasant woman who showed my the spot I should park on. No wifi available but mobile reception is adequate.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked: Great family run site, lovely and clean bathrooms. Peaceful site

Disliked: The hard ground ended bending 20+ pegs. No hot water for hand washing as they didn't seem to work on hot.

Powered grass campsite

Liked: Beautiful quiet, dog friendly site, good size pitch, clean and tidy. Lovely walks in the area and a nice little village with cafes, pubs, takeaway, co-op and a few nice shops too, all within walking distance. Owner lent me a hook up extension because the electric was quite far from my pitch, which was kind.

Disliked: Luckily I read the reviews about satnav bring a nightmare to find it. Despite using the road name and pinpointing it on google maps, it kept trying to take me the other side of the river. Be careful and double check! Obviously this isn’t the sites fault at all, but maybe they could put a few signs up on the roads to help. A few more toilets would be good - had to wait because people were having showers, but not too long luckily.

Camping pod (four person)

Liked: Staying in a pod made camping more accessible for our little one, who had a number of sensory needs. I wasn’t worried about her being cold and we didn’t need the heater on. The decking saved her lying on the grass and getting wet. The gravel paths meant no soggy shoes. Great location for lovely river and reservoir walks. Enjoyed takeaway and a meal in the village, with a play on the nearby park on the way back. I’d read the reviews and asked when I booked that they let me know the pod number in advance, John did, but it also said it on the booking confirmation. We stayed 3 nights and only had to queue for the bathroom once, for a few mins, around 9am, shower time. Great stay, would return.

Disliked: Crocs helpful in bathroom. We don’t go camping to go on technology so no wifi was fine for us

Local attractions

Walkers, get ready to go. Grab your hiking boots and stride out across the Beacon Hill Romulus to see the peaks of former volcanoes, stroll across the dam at Ryburn Reservoir (both five minutes’ drive) or hike up to the landmark Stoodley Pike (35 minutes) to admire Calderdale views from the monument. For a taster of Yorkshire’s industrial past, walks at National Trust-owned Hardcastle Crags (half an hour) take in former cotton mills and workers’ cottages. Keen to be out exploring on two wheels? Cyclists are just as well catered for, so try the looped trails on rugged moorland or head up to Hebden Bridge (25 minutes) and follow the towpath along Rochdale Canal for gentle family bike rides. Keep the kids entertained with immersive experiments and themed activities Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax (20 minutes), or spend some time browsing unusual boutiques at the monumental 18th-century Piece Hall – it’s also a lively centre for concerts and seasonal events so check to see what’s on before you go.
