Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The farmer was lovely and the view from the site was good too

Disliked: Very wet field, people getting stuck in the mud. Their was a large group of boys playing music till 2am in the morning. Told the farmer the day after, but nothing was done. It was the same the following night.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Great spot. Lovely and quiet and all you need for a quick night under the stars. Host Richard extremely friendly and welcoming and couldn’t do enough. Excellent views late afternoon but sadly became misty during the early evening before we could get some decent photographs. Would definitely recommend and will be back again soon.

Primitive grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Extremely friendly! Will do anything to help their customers even with things not under their control. Site is very well kept and even the portaloos are so clean and the extra effort has been made in those also. Not the mention the amazing views!

Local attractions

Keeping it all on an outdoor-activity theme, you may like to plan strolls through nearby Chopwell Woodland Park (10 minutes' drive) or more extensive hikes through the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There’s also fishing and sailing at Derwent Reservoir (15 minutes) and golf at Garesfield Golf Club and Stocksfield Golf Club (both five minutes) – or you could head over the road to Northumbria Gliding Club (10 minutes’ walk) to see it all from the sky. Mixing up hiking and heritage is easily done, too – head to the Hadrian’s Wall Path or stop off in top spots like Corbridge Roman Town (20 minutes’ drive) and Vindolanda (35 minutes). Beamish, the Living Museum of the North (25 minutes) gives you an insight into a different era. For a real change of scenery, head into the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne (half an hour) to see the Tyne Bridge, go underground at Victoria Tunnel and cross the Millennium Bridge for culture at the Sage Gateshead and Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.
