  • Quiet dog-friendly holiday park in a woodland with lots of wildlife
  • A 10-minute drive from Druridge Bay; 25 minutes to Alnwick Castle
  • Play area, woodland walks and den-building; dog-friendly pub nearby
Setting off for Northumberland adventures like surfing, bike rides along the beach and archery in the grounds of a castle? Your search for a peaceful base ends with Seddons Caravan Park, a quiet holiday park in a woodland with plenty of wildlife mooching around and Druridge Bay and Druridge Country Park 10 minutes’ drive away. Kids, dogs… the lot of you are welcome here. The facilities are geared towards families and furry friends. There’s a big children’s play area with an indoor play cabin and designated areas to set up a picnic, kick about a football or build a den. For any dogs’ all-important walkies, there are woodland walks and a dog exercise area, as well as a dog shower to scrub up any muddy or sandy paws. Their paws – and your toes – might indeed get sandy at Druridge Bay, where there are seven miles of sand, dunes and paddling pools. Try sailing on the lake Druridge Bay Country Park or float your surfboard out into the surf. Bike rides and birdwatching on shore are just as excellent. With washing-up and laundry facilities on site, you’ll have somewhere to sort out any beach clothes or leftovers from barbecues or campfires. On the topic of tasty food, there’s a dog-friendly pub in Widdrington 35 minutes’ walk away and a food shop and pizza takeaway in Widdrington Station, five minutes’ drive away.

Local attractions

Harry Potter and Downton Abbey fans might recognise Alnwick Castle (25 minutes’ drive) from their screens. The stunning Norman castle runs archery and broomstick-flying classes, as well as guided tours. Afterwards, you might fancy dining in the nearby treehouse restaurant at The Alnwick Garden (20 minutes), followed by a post-meal stroll around the cherry orchard? Little family members are likely to appreciate Northumberland Country Zoo (10 minutes) too, where there are creatures like lemurs and leopards and flying shows featuring impressive birds of prey. If you’re still craving some more history, map out the way to the National Trust’s Cragside (25 minutes), a Victorian mansion which runs on hydro-electricity – it’s pretty neat. Tour the medieval ruins of Warkworth Castle (15 minutes) or have yourself an active day at the National Trust’s Wallington (35 minutes), where the grounds of a historic house have river and farm trails and the option to hire two wheels for the cycling trail.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked This was a great location and very good value for money. The toilet/shower facilities were clean and the pitches were nice and spacious.
I visited the site whilst taking my 2 year son camping on my own for the first time. it was the ideal place as he had plenty space to play outside of the tent and overall the site was just very relaxed and peaceful.

Disliked Playpark could be improved by cutting the grass and cleaning the toys up but regardless my little boy still enjoyed playing there. The grass on the rest of the site was cut and tidy.
