  • Simple, well-kept North Yorkshire site under a mile from Huby
  • A 20-minute drive to York or the Howardian Hills
  • Dogs and kids welcome; good bus services from the village
If you like the idea of a rural break but also value the convenience of having village facilities within a couple minutes' drive, find yourself a space at Fox Covert. This North Yorkshire site is in a proper countryside spot surrounded by green farmland, and it's just a mile away from the village of Huby when you feel the need for a shop, or want to visit a pub (with food), a Chinese takeaway or a fish and chip shop. The village is a handy hub for various things, but it's not the only urban option around here – the market town of Easingwold is about 10 minutes' drive away for more pubs, shops and places to eat (plus a twice-weekly market) and it will take you about 20 minutes to get to York to visit all its fantastic historic attractions. Both of these are served by buses from the village. If it's all about the rural activities for you, you’ll also be well served here – there’s fishing just up the road, and plenty of scenic walks a 20-minute drive away in the Howardian Hills National Landscape. You can catch up with fluffy alpacas and impressive birds of prey at nearby animal attractions or seek out historic attractions from Roman sites to grand stately homes. Back at base, it's a laidback setup with simple and well-maintained facilities in the form of a couple of toilets and showers, plus plenty of space for kids and dogs to run around.

What customers say

A peaceful, spacious site with a friendly owner. Pitches are level. Basic but clean facilities. Some found toilets/showers insufficient during peak times. Great location for a relaxing break, though a few facility upgrades were suggested.

Liked The field was flat and electric hookups were available all over. The toilet and shower block were great.

Val was very nice and advised us on walks and what buses to get into town.

Disliked Area to clean dishes would be helpful although there is great drinking water.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked We moved up to the top field after the first night as the bottom field butts onto the road. It was really peaceful up there with horses in the next field, birds of prey flying around and lovely views. There’s 2 showers and toilets a short walk from the field.

Disliked Val was friendly but very abrupt with our brother and sister in law who came to join us for a couple of hours for a BBQ to celebrate my husbands birthday. The toilet ran out of toilet paper. Only one shower worked at a time. It’s a little bit regimented there

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi there well for one you asked to go in shade due to hot weather i then let you move when asked .for 2 most campsites would not accomadate you to move 3 most campsites need to know when you have people coming on visiting 4 most charge for extra people and cars coming on sites 5 my shower was broken and i could not fix it myself and was waiting for the plumber this i apolagize for 6 you was asked to keep your fire low and you did not 7 i go out and check the toilet rolls regually if there is no toilet rolls you could have asked i apolagize for none being there 8 you say it is a bit regimented what a laugh Val

Liked Lovely friendly owner, felt really welcome. Nice flat pitches with soft soil east to get pegs in. Not far from tourist attractions and York. Toilets and shower were clean, toilet roll was topped up and soap in the toilet. Great shower pressure in the second shower didn’t go in the first one.

Disliked No washing up area but plenty of hot water to wash up in tent. Close to a road but nothing too bothersome.

Liked Dogs allowed
Nice area

Disliked Had a problem with visitors, owner accepted money to let my dad on site for a couple hours but she was quite rude about it. Dogs have to be kept on lead. Toilets and showers were awful

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi we allow visitors on if booked on beforehand for the reason most caravan sites do our insurance and if a accident happened , also your father cancelled his booking for those 2 days same day as due and then expected to come on for the day and i do not think i was rude at all and your dad offered me money and i did not take the full amount i do not charge as long as you book before and was not going to charge your dad i am sorry you feel it was wrong when we are busy there is not always room for extra cars Val and John
