  • A 95-acre woodland site a short drive from the A171
  • Easy access to the stunning Yorkshire coast, moors and Goathland
  • Two-mile nature trail with a pond and modern amenities blocks
You might be relieved this site has 'cross' in its name, as it's near the toothy town of Whitby, famed of course these days for its Goth weekends and those days for being where one Count Dracula leapt ashore to UK soil… But of course Ladycross Plantation Caravan Park has a fair bit more going on for it than that… in fact you could say that the site has a lot of bite…? It's a nifty base from which to flit to the best of North Yorkshire, for one, as it's only 400 yards off the A171 from Teeside to Whitby, and has easy access to the North York Moors National Park and Heartbeat country around Goathlands. And it's set on 95 acres of good-looking woodland, with a two-mile-long nature trail meandering through its trees and past a pond. There's also easy access for caravans and tourers. The on-site pantry shop in the reception area stocks essentials and stacks of leaflets on what to do in the surrounding area (after Whitby, natch). The park also has a book exchange service. Ladycross is run by a family team who have been improving and upgrading the park since taking it over in 2010. Among the features added are two modern and well-maintained toilet and shower blocks with private washrooms and underfloor heating, a waste and water point, and secluded areas for various pitches.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Beautiful quiet site set in lovely grounds. Very friendly staff members. All facilities kept spotless and the grounds maintained. The woodland walks were clearly marked and lots of fun for the kids to explore. Touring pitches of a good size and again, well maintained. The whole site felt like we were miles from anywhere which was great. There was no noise late at night other than wildlife which was wonderful. All in all superb.

Disliked: nothing. we loved it.

Liked: Beautiful site in a tranquil woodland setting. Really good size pitch, immaculate facilities and friendly staff. just far enough away from Whitby to be rural, quiet and peaceful but only a stones throw away from all the seaside fun.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite (adults only)

Liked: Second visit to this lovely place in a week as we loved it so much we decided to return! I took full advantage of the book swap and we had returned from a campsite with no bathroom facilities, so it was like coming home! It was much busier over the weekend than it had been the previous week but still such a quiet and chilled vibe. The dog loved the walks around the park and it's great to see chickens strolling around the place. I'm looking forward to a few weekend retreats before the season ends at the end of October.

Disliked: Not a dislike but just advice who love lively parks with bars and play areas etc. You won't find this here but you will find absolute tranquility and very friendly people. All the kids we saw found plenty to do getting out into nature and playing on their bikes and scooters. Mobile signal and WiFi can be patchy

Liked: Everything! Exceptionally clean, wonderful facilities, beautiful setting and lovely staff. Level pitches and everyone was very helpful. We loved it so much that we are heading back the day after tomorrow with the dog to take advantage of the lovely walks around the park. I think we have found our go to place!

Disliked: Truly can't think of anything we didn't enjoy.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite (adults only)

Liked: Very clean site Toilets immaculate. Was greeted by the reception team and taken to our pitch.

Disliked: Mostly permanent caravans with hardly any tourers, the site lacked personality as very few people were actually staying there. It was an uphill trip to use the toilets and to collect water. It has a shop but no facilities to buy hot food or any take aways.

From the manager: Thank you for you review. All information about what Ladycross offers is on our Pitch up listing so I ask you all to check prior to booking so you ensure you have picked the park that suits your needs. Yes we do have a lot of seasonal pitches and yes we are quiet, again please bare this in mind when booking at Ladycross, our seasonals and regular tourers return year after year as they seek out the getaway from normal life that offers peace and tranquility, there are other parks locally that are more vibrant. There is a metre difference between the bottom of the park and the top, i'm afraid the land formation is our of my control but definitely a bonus when the biblical rains come as we will never flood. Thanks again, the team at Ladycross

Local attractions

Among the many fab things to see and do are Whitby Abbey (Dracula!), the castle, the oldness of its port town, the Captain Cook Memorial Museum and fish and chips at the Magpie. And the Whitby Gothic Weekend, and the Bram Stoker Film Festival, and the annual Whitby Regatta… Around the region are many other famed things to see and do, like fishing and fossil hunting at Robin Hood's Bay, hiking the Cleveland Way, basking on Yorkshire's beaches, or taking the Coastliner bus to other seaside spots like Scarborough and Bridlington. Inland, have a wander around the North York Moors National Park, Dalby Forest, teeny Yorkshire villages or shopping towns like Pickering and Malton.
