Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Easy to find and plenty of space, flat field in a pleaant setting. Toilet shower block clean and modern

Disliked: Toilet block a little small for number of pitches, no hooks or benches in the shower so hard to keep your clothes dry when getting changed. No contact with anyone upon arrival although it was late.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Friendly welcome. Lovely riverside walk to Stainforth Force waterfall (2 miles ish) Clean facilities. Close proximity to Settle village.

Disliked: Long grass and bumpy ground. Not enough toilets for number of potential pitches and having to queue (weekend) Over flowing bins. Having to pay extra for dog and yet no reason to as no facilities for them eg dog bins or dog walk. Hidden water tap - someone had pitched in front of it so didn't know where it was.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: The campsite is in a good position just outside Settle which is within an easy walk to get to. The site is large with room to have good distances between guests. The toilet blocks are exceptionally clean and the overall campsite also tidy. The site staff are also friendly, approachable and happy to help if required. Overall a very good campsite.

Disliked: More hardstanding pitches would be beneficial for motorhomes, especially in times after prolonged rain, and perhaps one or two urinals in the male toilets, this is not a gripe on what is great site.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Settle town was not in good walking distance

Disliked: Camp was very run down and two toilets that were blocked had to que for 20 min. My partner didn’t even use the men’s as this was disgusting. The grass needed cutting and no organisation for parking. Booked 2 nights but only stayed one

Local attractions

Don a hard hat and take a stroll deep into the bowels of the earth at Ingleborough Cave (20 minutes’ drive). Here, you can admire stalactites, stalagmites and other spectacular rock formations sculpted by water over many millennia, plus subterranean ponds. Dominated by a well-preserved medieval castle, Skipton (30 minutes) is on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which you can explore from the comfort of a cruise boat or, if you feel comfortable around swing bridges, from your own hired narrow boat. On the outskirts of town, Raven Tree Top Adventure has hanging bridges and ziplines. Spend a day at the seaside in Morecambe (55 minutes), where you can take a leisurely stroll (or cycle ride) along the promenade, check out the trampoline park and have fish and chips alfresco, as you gaze upon the vast mudflats of Morecambe Bay. The mudflats might look inviting, but they’re notoriously treacherous, with quicksands and fast-moving tides, so you’re advised to stay off them.
