Large field in the middle of the yorkshire dales

  • Peaceful site in the Yorkshire Dales, five minutes’ drive from Settle
  • Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk 10 minutes’ drive; Morecambe 55 minutes
  • Underfloor-heated shower block built in natural limestone
Straddling the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland National Landscape, Lodge Park is a well-maintained site that will appeal to those who fancy a peaceful retreat, perhaps punctuated by invigorating walks through the surrounding woodland. Dogs are welcome here, so you can have your best friend by your side as you explore the local paths – not to mention the caves and waterfalls for which this area is known. If you want to sink your teeth into something more challenging, the trailhead for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Walk (which takes in Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough) is a 10-minute drive away. Alternatively, you can admire the countryside from the comfort of the train on the Settle–Carlisle heritage railway (Settle station is about a mile away). Keen golfers, meanwhile, might prefer to while a few hours away on the greens at Settle and Giggleswick Golf Club (five minutes’ drive). On site, the toilet/shower block has been built with natural limestone, in keeping with other edifices in the area. On a chilly Yorkshire evening, you’ll no doubt be grateful for the underfloor heating in these quarters, which also include disabled facilities. The market town of Settle (five minutes), with its cute stone cottages, has numerous cafés and restaurants, traditional pubs and independent shops.

What customers say

Great spot near Settle, with nice valley & river views. Friendly owners, clean facilities, and lots of hot showers get thumbs up. Spacious, flat fields are perfect for relaxing. Some note overflowing bins & busy period noise, but most want to come back.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked 3/4 mile walk into settle for restaurants etc, toilets were clean, showers were hot, plenty of space to camp where you want in the bottom fields. Make sure you bring a torch with you if your walking back from settle in the dark as the lane is poorly lit. Really reasonable price to camp there.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lots of space, beautiful views, friendly and helpful farmer, toilets were clean, showers were warm and had decent water pressure. They had fire pits to rent and wood to buy on site which was very convenient. Easy walking distance into Settle for all local amenities.

I can't recommend it in it's current state. Needs a clean up.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Bathrooms were modern and pretty clean, though the water in the men's shower was scalding hot and there was no way to adjust it so I had to squat while showering. Nearby walking paths were pretty and peaceful. The big lawn for the grass pitches was very spacious and mostly empty when we were there in March and our dog liked it very much.

Disliked The bins were all overflowing and there was no recycling, which was unpleasant and inconvenient. There was a large pit in the grass pitch area near the stream where trash and a few rotting sheep carcasses had been dumped. Given the condition and amenities, especially for the grass pitches with no EHU, the price seemed excessive.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Everything we needed was there. An easy walk to Settle and nice day walks direct from the site.

Disliked none really. It was early march and quite quiet - maybe the facilities become more busy as the site gets busy.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Location & peace & quiet.
Has what you need.

Short walk into Settle.

We stayed on the field with no hook up.

Disliked Getting stuck on the field due to the weather but got a tow off from the owner.

Recommend hard standing only for vans & motorhomes as the field is very soft if it rains.

Local attractions

Don a hard hat and take a stroll deep into the bowels of the earth at Ingleborough Cave (20 minutes’ drive). Here, you can admire stalactites, stalagmites and other spectacular rock formations sculpted by water over many millennia, plus subterranean ponds. Dominated by a well-preserved medieval castle, Skipton (30 minutes) is on the banks of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, which you can explore from the comfort of a cruise boat or, if you feel comfortable around swing bridges, from your own hired narrow boat. On the outskirts of town, Raven Tree Top Adventure has hanging bridges and ziplines. Spend a day at the seaside in Morecambe (55 minutes), where you can take a leisurely stroll (or cycle ride) along the promenade, check out the trampoline park and have fish and chips alfresco, as you gaze upon the vast mudflats of Morecambe Bay. The mudflats might look inviting, but they’re notoriously treacherous, with quicksands and fast-moving tides, so you’re advised to stay off them.
