  • Peaceful family hideaway with pitches in a sheltered paddock
  • Close to Flamingo Land, Pickering and the North York Moors
  • Well-maintained amenities, firepit hire and charging facilities
Popular but peaceful, and small but perfectly formed... these are the excellent elements of North Yorkshire's Hobground Campsite. This friendly and quiet site welcomes all ages to its serene location, with pitches in a sheltered paddock on a site set back a quarter of a mile from the main road. It's well placed for easy exploring: Pickering and Malton are both 15 minutes' drive away, York is 50 minutes, and the North York Moors National Park is 10 minutes to the north. Additionally – cue overexcited honks from the kids – the site is a mere three miles from the theme park and zoo of Flamingo Land. Hobground has a well-maintained shower and toilet block, chemical disposal, charging facilities, ice pack freezing and a washing-up area. Firepits can be hired for an extra charge.

Powered grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Easy to find. Nice open pitches in a walled area. Toilets/shower in a porta cabin. Need a £1 for a 5 min shower. Water good temperature. Washing up area very open, cold water only but can get water from toilet sink or take your boiled kettle over to the wash area. No walks directly from the site.

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked: Hobground is a ‘no frills’ campsite comprising of three paddocks, surrounded mainly by trees so you are protected well from the elements but also a great sun trap. Nice views. Grounds are nice and flat. Option for EHU. Far enough from the road to create a very peaceful atmosphere but a great location to explore surrounding areas such as Scarborough, Whitby etc and market towns such as Pickering and Malton. Two clean, well maintained porta - cabins provide showers, loo’s and sinks. And there’s an outdoor area for washing up. Fire pit and logs can be hired for a small fee Value for money Owner is friendly and accommodating. This site does NOT have a reception area. You enter the site via a well established dirt track and just before the first paddock there is sign asking you to wait and call owner who will then come out and meet you and direct you to your allocated pitch. It’s important you wait and not drive beyond this point as track is not wide enough for two - way traffic.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The site was a no nonsense good old fashioned campsite. Nice enough toilet blocks, places to wash your pots and pans, clean showers. The ground itself was flat and open. It's separated into different paddocks so makes it a bit easier to contain the little ones and means they are always close to your tent. Plenty of space to pitch up and park your cars. The owners was a nice chap and comes round on the mornings and evenings to see if everything's alright which is a nice touch. you can also rent a fire pit and buy fire wood off of him for the evenings if you like. There are some reviews on here complaining about the lack of hot water in the pots washing stations however it is explained up on arrival that hot water is available from the toilet blocks to fill your washing up bowls and that it is all the same water. Not to mention this is a basic campsite and a little bit of cold water on your pots won't do you any harm. great location to pickering and other villages nearby. Also not too far from Dalby Forest which is absolutely worth a visit if you have a young family that loves exploring. Overall a nice stay, the family enjoyed themselves and we would come again.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Lovely site with a welcoming owner and staff (even when I started setting up on the wrong pitch!). Peaceful and quiet - a lovely get away from it all. Perfect for those with young kids to let them roam free on the field and play. Site is also close to local attractions - flamingo land, Dalby Forest, Pickering, Ryedale and North York Moors to mention a few. The kids loved that we could hire a campfire and do marshmallows etc. we will 100% be coming back.

Disliked: Nothing
