Liked: The site was clean and tidy and a nice walk down by the ponds.

Disliked: Trains - a bit of a marmite thing but very close. Toilets and shower were very poor and shared. Couldn’t use toilets while someone was in the shower either - not nice set up there and god knows when they were last cleaned properly.

From the manager: Dear Mr Clarke, I do feel that your review of our site is rather unkind, especially as you literally stayed overnight! I appreciate that the toilet block in this area is in need of replacing, it has served us well and will be changed next year( as a small business we have limited funds to do everything we would like to!) However, it is checked and cleaned daily (nobody else to date has had any issues with cleanliness) The trains are mentioned in our advertising description. We work exceptionally hard everyday to provide a relaxing place for people to stay and have a large following of regular customers who appreciate what we have to offer. We have lots of excellent reviews and we are delighted to know that for the majority of the time we’ve got it right!!

Liked: Everything. Lovely well kept site. We arrived Friday and was greeted by a very friendly and helpful lady called Sue . She made sure we was ok and told us where everything was . She made the 2 young children with us very welcome, telling them that they was welcome to play with the go carts which they loved. We will definitely be returning but next time I won’t forget my fishing rod.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike. Even the trains going past didn’t bother us .

Liked: Great quiet little site fishing pond only a short walk from the pitches we never fished but I did have a walk round and it looks great and well maintained. Sheep and pigs and chickens to look at. staff very friendly and helpful The east takeaway delivers to the site also so bonus All in all a nice well maintained site

Disliked: Only one shower and two toilets but we never had a problem getting to either. Train tracks run next to the site but you soon don't notice them going by

Local attractions

If you’re in the area for the fresh air, you’ve got lots of choices for days out. Perhaps head to the fabulous North Yorkshire coast for days in Filey (20 minutes’ drive), Scarborough (25 minutes) or Whitby (45 minutes), or take your binoculars out for a day of birdwatching at RSPB Bempton Cliffs (35 minutes). Alternatively, stay inland for mountain bike rides in Dalby Forest (25 minutes) or hikes through the stunning North York Moors National Park. The North Yorkshire Water Park (20 minutes) is another fun option for those who’d like to bound across a floating assault course, and there are a couple of golf courses within a 10-minute drive too. Meanwhile, those who like flower-filled views should take a look at Scampston Walled Garden and Woldies Nature & Lavender Farm (both 10 minutes). If you like to include a bit of history and culture on your holidays, plan trips to the magnificent Castle Howard (25 minutes) and the ruins of Rievaulx Abbey (45 minutes). More recent history is on display at Eden Camp Modern History Museum (15 minutes), on the site of a former prisoner of war camp, and there's always plenty to see and do in York (35 minutes).
