  • Small East Yorkshire glamping site on a family farm in Octon
  • Bridlington and Filey beaches 20 minutes' drive away
  • Smart and cosy ensuite log cabins with kitchenette and barbecue area
Head to the East Yorkshire countryside and a little rural retreat on a working farm that’s equally well placed for seaside days and scenic country walks. Old Octon Farm Lodges is a small site in the village of Octon, 20 minutes from the coast at Bridlington and Filey. The surroundings here are all pretty pastures and open skies, so it’s just the location for a relaxing time spent soaking up the fresh air, stargazing and sunset watching. There are several pubs and restaurants in local villages, with more places to eat in Driffield (15 minutes’ drive), which also has a supermarket for supplies to take back to base. Whatever you source in the shops can go into meals prepped inside or outside your lodge – each of the smartly kitted-out log cabins has a kitchenette (with microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, cutlery and crockery provided) and a dining area, plus a barbecue area outside for alfresco eating. The table and chairs on the deck at the front of the lodge are in just the right spot for breakfast in the morning sun too… The lodges have been thoughtfully designed throughout, with central heating, double glazing and insulation to keep everything cosy even on cool nights; each one also has wifi, a Freesat TV and an ensuite bathroom with rainfall shower (most welcome after a long day hiking in the nearby Yorkshire Wolds). These are family-friendly lodges, and dogs are also welcome as long as they are added to your booking in advance and not left in your lodge on their own at any time.

Buttercup lodge

Liked: Everything! Great hosts who were welcoming and helpful. Visited with our 2.5 year old and a baby. Our little one loved saying hello to the sheep on a morning and enjoyed sitting on the tractors. Lodge was clean and bed was very comfy! Great little touches such as complimentary hamper/ toy baskets and toddler cutlery and plate. It was lovely to eat outside on a night… so many stars!! Thanks for such a wonderful stay - I am sure we will be visiting again!

Disliked: Nothing at all! We would have stayed longer if we could have!

Very warm welcome from Mandy, lovely clean & comfortable lodge, with everything you need, and the favourite part of our stay was the view in a morning, watching the sheep! Shepherd's View lodge (no pets)

Liked: Really well equipped lodge. Linen and towels provided and well equipped kitchen, including a hob and oven which was a nice surprise. The showers were lovely. We met Mandy, our host, who was very kind and helpful. She has provided good info about the area in the lodge. There is lots to do if you have access to a car. We liked Bridlington, Eden Camp and Pickering. We were in the largest of the 3 Lodges which was great for a family of our size. The lodges are on a sheep farm and is very quiet. We even heard owls one night.

Disliked: Nothing major. There is not really anything to do in walking distance apart from the play area at Thwing which is a half hour walk. Lots to do if you have access to a car though and the countryside is beautiful for a walk. Call ahead if you want to eat at the neighboring pubs. There is a poor mobile signal but good Wifi if you can make Wi-Fi calls via your phone.

Shepherd's View lodge (no pets)

Liked: The cozy cottage was absolutely charming and ideal for our family of four. It had all the essentials, and we especially enjoyed having a barbecue in the evenings. The location was fantastic—peaceful, quiet, and private. We even had the delightful company of sheep just beyond the fence. The owners were incredibly friendly. We will definitely be returning!
