  • Farm site half an hour’s drive from the Norfolk Broads and coast
  • Just outside Sprowston, 15 minutes from Norwich by car
  • Farm shop, wifi, coffee shop, beautician and dance studio
Travellers bound for the wide open spaces of East Anglia should home in on Plum Camping, a five-acre farm site 15 minutes' drive from Norwich that's surrounded by pick-your-own fruit orchards and 250 acres’ worth of fields and woodland. Settle in here among the plum and apple trees for a real rural feel and a handy location on the edge of the quiet town of Sprowston. Looking to make regular trips into Norwich? This spot is a five-minute walk from a bus stop where you can board regular services and be dropped right in the middle of town. Amenities on site include a farm shop, a butchery, a coffee shop, a fenced picnic area, a beautician’s and a dance studio, plus a communal kitchen and a washing-up area. Access to fridges and freezers can also generally be sorted on request, as can electric sockets for your crew's assorted gadgetry. The Norfolk coast is a top pick for walkers and is home to paths with some truly excellent views, such as the scenic trail from Cromer to Overstrand (40 minutes' drive). Inland, the Norfolk Broads’ north-eastern corner is particularly peaceful as most of the boats that cruise these waterways can't squeeze under low-lying Potter Heigham’s bridge (30 minutes). All in all, you won't find wetlands, wildlife and cosy village pubs hard to come by around here.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: So quiet and peaceful, there was only one other camper there, I set up a fire in one of the fire pits and bought some wood from the shed and watched the sun set. I’ve stayed here before when working in Norwich but I like it that much I will probably camp here again for the fun of it. The toilet and shower block are basic but adequate for what you need. There’s a big Tescos 5 mins drive away if you need anything. No one bothered me, really chilled and laid back site.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Free plums from plum orchard! Facilities clean. Charging point, fridge and freezer for freezer blocks all very useful. Toilets always had paper and washing up sinks with hot water and washing up liquid available. Availability of free fire pit hire and fire logs to purchase. Close by to shopping facilities although it doesnt feel like it when you are on the campsite. Generously spaced plots.

Disliked: Shower huts were too small making it a bit difficult to find somewhere to keep dry clothes dry. It was very windy when we stayed and the boiler pilot light had a tendency to blow out. There is however a large family shower room as an alternative to the shower huts.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: It’s a nice simple simple site, really relaxed, not too big, nice and quiet. Has everything you need with a rustic feel which I liked.

Disliked: Showers were temperamental. It was a Shame the farm shop was shut on Sundays and Mondays but there is a huge Tesco down the road

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Excellent camp site, very chilled out environment. Showers and toilets were great for the price point. The site has just what you need and nothing that you don't

Disliked: More a recommendation to be honest. Maybe a site map to help new arrivals know where they can and cant pitch up. Was also very vague about what to do upon arrival. The website stated “check in at the blue kiosk” couldn't find the kiosk or anybody who knew where it was.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Wide open and very flat spaces. Nice facilities, good location for Norwich and Norfolk in general. Park and ride for Norwich is close by and an ideal way to explore the city centre. Highly recommend site

Disliked: it's the UK so the weather as usual.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Campsite was so relaxed. There were fire pits available for hire and a fridge you could use. The staff were extremely friendly. I got away because I was struggling with things and needed to hide away. This campsite gave me the opportunity to do that and left me feeling relaxed and chilled. I will definately be back and would recommend it to anyone if you are happy with back to basics camping. BBQs are allowed and there is a plug socket available to charge phones. The campsite is very clean and tidy and although it is near 2 main roads and a housing estate, it’s really peaceful. There is also a farm shop, cafe, pottery place, cidery, shop and hairdressers at the site. I recommend going to the farm shop for breakfast items

Disliked: Only downside was no disabled accessible facilities but I knew about this before going so was no big deal

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Really relaxed, laid-back, peaceful campsite with all that you need - nice flat fields, lots of space so it never felt crowded, and good, clean facilities. A little gem, right on the edge of Norwich. Also great for spotting helicopters and planes flying into and out of Norwich airport (though far enough away for them not to be a disturbance)! The owner / manager was very frequently on site, quietly servicing the facilities and making sure all was in order. All in all, a great place to camp!

Disliked: Nothing!

Local attractions

Pitch up, stroll next door to Sprowston Manor Hotel, Golf and Country Club (a few minutes’ walk) and you're set for a day of pleasant putting on a well-kept 18-hole course. For some classy spectator sports, meanwhile, you might like to amble in the direction of Castle Carvery Racecourse (15 minutes' walk) and watch jockeys and horses vying for that all-important first place. Norwich (15 minutes' drive or about half an hour on public transport) is a regional hub of food, culture and ornate architecture, with the undisputed highlight of that final category being the city's well-preserved Norman cathedral. Families with active younger members may appreciate such proximity to town too, as it means easy access to kid-pleasing attractions like bowling alleys, a snowsports centre and Whitlingham Country Park (all within 20 minutes), where there's bucketloads of space for frisbee, ball games and the like. Heading to the seaside is another obvious option: Sea Palling beach (30 minutes) and Waxham beach (35 minutes) are both sandy and have a relaxed, family-friendly vibe, while Blakeney National Nature Reserve (50 minutes) has wilder stretches of shoreline and seal colonies to scout out.
