A top-notch glamping site that’s just the ticket for luxurious mini-breaks and special occasions, Broad Fen Retreats is set in peaceful grounds on an organic farm. This romantic and secluded spot is within the grounds of a privately-owned nature reserve, edging the Norfolk Broads near North Walsham in East Anglia.
Kitted out to the highest spec, each pod has a king-size bed (all bedding and towels are supplied), a smart fully-equipped kitchen and an ensuite with a shower. They’re heated for those days when the temperature falls, and have Freeview TV and a wifi connection to keep in touch with the outside world (if you really want to).
Outside, there's a gorgeous luxury touch in the form of an eco-friendly wood-fired hot tub, and you can also cook up a barbecue on summer nights (source gourmet bits and pieces in North Walsham supermarkets, 10 minutes’ drive) over the brazier outside.
But what makes this place truly special? Guests have exclusive access to Broad Fen, a privately owned 95-acre Special Area of Conservation in ancient woodland and fen meadowland, where many rare species thrive. All this is yours to wander, with the chance to spot elusive deer as you roam.

You may never want to leave your glam little hideaway, but there’s plenty for loved-up couples to do in this quiet corner of North Norfolk. Life in the Broads centres on the water, and you can hire a canoe or paddleboard on site to potter around local waterways like Alderfen (15 minutes’ drive) and Barton broads (20 minutes).
Other water-based options include casting for carp at Dilham Fishery (five minutes), taking a day boat out from pretty Wroxham (20 minutes), split by the River Bure, or enjoying bracing strolls on Sea Palling beach (25 minutes).
Keen to mug up on a bit of Norfolk history? Tour the massive Jacobean mansion at National Trust-owned Blickling Hall to see where Anne Boleyn was born, or have a snoop through the finely furnished apartments at Felbrigg Hall (both half an hour) and explore the formal gardens.
Get more gardening inspiration from the wildflower meadows at East Ruston Old Vicarage Garden (15 minutes), and prebook to see the lily ponds and quiet meditation corners at Mannington Gardens (35 minutes).
