  • Family-friendly campsite on a working Snettisham farm in North Norfolk
  • Sandringham Estate 10 minutes’ drive and Holme Beach 15 minutes
  • Farm park and dog paddock on site; village pub 10 minutes’ walk
Set on a traditional family-run farm in rural Norfolk, Snettisham Meadows is on the outskirts of the pretty village of Snettisham and 15 minutes’ drive from North Sea beaches in the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Animal-mad campers, form an orderly queue please, as this 329-acre farm has several attractions up its sleeve for you, including meet-and-greets with pigs, pony rides, lamb feeding in spring and deer safaris. There’s also a dog paddock for rent so your four-legged companions can have a frisk around, and an area on the camping field is reserved for guests with dogs. Facilities include showers (with cold water only in February), washing-up sinks with cold water, a small shop at reception for essential supplies and tourist information, USB phone charging and a freezer for ice packs. Campfires and barbecues are permitted, and you can borrow firepits and buy logs for kindling from the site owners. After a fun-filled day exploring this lovely part of Norfolk, come back to your pitch and keep your fingers crossed for clear skies and some serious stargazing. The site is only 10 minutes’ walk from a popular village pub, where you are guaranteed a warm welcome should you fancy a spot of lunch or an evening pint.

Powered grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: Clean and spacious campsite. Good amenity block. Great walks from campsite. Clear idea of when reception open but always able to ring mobile if needed. A lot of rain but meadow remained accessible with very little standing water. Very much recommend and would return to this site.

Disliked: Would have liked a dog wash area/ hose for our muddy dogs as a suggestion not a dislike. Close to farm so allow for animal noises!

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: Being able to choose own pitch, pitching around the edge of the field so space to play in the middle, freezer for ice blocks (essential for us and so few sites offer this now so thank you), clean toilets, big, open skies, no big groups allowed so quiet at night.

Disliked: At the moment it is quite exposed, but more hedges have been planted, so just needs time! On the map it says 'children's play area' which is a bit misleading as it is just a designated place to play (with goals)- maybe 'designated children's play space' or something would be better.

Fab time, but would have loved to be on actually on a farm.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked: Everything was kept very clean and well run. The showers are great and the hot water was reliable. We could pick our own spot on the field and there was plenty of space to pitch up and play. Fire pits are free to hire with a small deposit and the firewood is reasonably priced. The small reception sells some basics and there is a fridge/freezer and charging point always open. The adjoining farm is lovely, if a little pricey - we especially loved the reindeer safari. Lots of things to do in the area. All the staff were very friendly and helpful - we had a lovely time!

Disliked: The play area you pass on your way in IS NOT a part of the camping area, but a part of the farm. The camping play area is just some football goals, which is fine but driving past the lovely fort playground was a little misleading. It’s also a little misleading to advertise as being on a working farm, which suggests that you can freely roam around the farm and help the farmers/see the animals as we have at many other campsites. However, the farm the campsite adjoins is a paid-for attraction which is (a lot) extra, separate from the campsite. There are some ponies you can see at the campsite but that’s it. It would have been nice to at least have a discount for the farm attraction as the campsite is advertised as on a farm.

Local attractions

If you can drag your youngsters away from the animals on site, they can have a runaround on the climbing frames and soft-play equipment at Farmer Fred’s Adventure Play Barn (five minutes’ drive). SEA LIFE Hunstanton (10 minutes) is the place for encounters with seals and turtles, while there are dinosaur trails to follow at ROARR! theme park (50 minutes). When it’s time for a day at the seaside, you have several options including Brancaster Beach (20 minutes) for bracing strolls along the dunes to the remains of Branodunum Roman Fort. Backed by rainbow-coloured beach huts, Wells-Next-the-Sea (half an hour) has opportunities for birdwatching, crabbing and paddling in the shallows, and Holme Beach (15 minutes) is a secluded sandy expanse known for its great sunset views. Add a bit of culture into the holiday entertainment with a guided tour of the royal apartments at Sandringham Estate (10 minutes), where you can also walk your canine chums in acres of groomed parkland. Holkham Hall (35 minutes) is another fine mansion with lavishly OTT interiors and formal water gardens, while ornate Blickling Hall (50 minutes) is known for its Jacobean architecture and a priceless book collection in the Long Gallery Library.
