  • Wildlife haven among open fields: walk to the beach in two minutes
  • Basic and peaceful site just behind the coast path
  • Barbecues and campfires allowed; shop and pub a few minute's walk away
The splendid beach near Hunstanton Camping and Glamping (dog-friendly Heacham beach, two minutes' walk away) is the only east-coast beach in Britain facing west. This means that guests here are often treated to the sight of a spectacular sunset over the sea – a real rarity for Norfolk. As well being a romantic sunset spot, this location is also a very enticing one for watersports enthusiasts, hikers and families – plus dog owners, who are welcome to bring their pet along for a holiday and a ramble along the Norfolk coast. Hunstanton Camping and Glamping is on the edge of the village of Heacham, in a peaceful wildlife haven surrounded by open fields. It's three miles from here to Snettisham, five to Hunstanton and 10 miles to Thornham, all with dog-friendly beaches and walks aplenty, or you could feel regal for the day with a trip to Sandringham – and its woodland walking paths – within 15 minutes' drive. The site has a good selection of amenities including toilets (ladies', gents' and unisex facilities), four indoor unisex showers and a number of outdoor showers. Grey waste water disposal and chemical disposal are available for touring guests, and plug sockets in washrooms mean you can charge phones or use hairdryers easily enough. Barbecues and campfires are both allowed; a local shop a minute's walk away has most supplies you should need. There's also a pub a few minutes' walk away.

Power optional grass RV campsite

Liked: Owner was nice, helpful.

Disliked: Toilets were terrible, mixed and absolutely disgusting like a festival! Ground uneven £10 extra for electric after paying £43 to stay it was expensive for what was essentially a plot of grass.

From the manager: Thank you Rob for taking the time to leave a review, we are so pleased that you found is to be nice and helpful. Our facilities have both "mixed" and female/male only bathrooms. You may have visited on a wet weekend, in which case the floor can get a little grubby, we do try to keep on top of this! Our campsite is flat and grassy, I am surprised you managed to find an uneven bit. So Sorry you will not be returning, we have many happy campers that come back time and time again to be by the beach :)

Primitive grass tent campsite (small)

Liked: Lovely little camp site with good and clean facilities, the man was really nice and accommodating when we arrived slightly early. Literally a 30 second walk to the beach which was nice, 5 min drive to some of the best fish & chips I’ve ever had! Was really quiet when we were there so lots of space between pitches. Lovely sunset on the night. Absolutely would stay again thank you

Disliked: Not the cheapest camp site then an extra £10 if we wanted to park another car which I thought was quite a lot so we parked our second car elsewhere

From the manager: Thank you Caitlin for your great review of Hunstanton Camping & Glamping, we are so pleased that you found us to be a clean site with good facilities, you enjoyed being just a 2 minute walk from the golden sands of South Beach and that you had the best fish & chips you've even had, you must have went to Fishers in Hunstanton! It was a pleasure to host you here on the Norfolk Coast and we very much look forward to seeing you again very soon :)

Power optional grass campervan campsite (no awning)

Liked: I was only able to stay for one night, wish I could've stayed a lot longer! This was my first trip out in my mini camper and I couldn't of picked a better site. Nigel the owner was friendly and very helpful. Good facilities, the showers, toilets and washing up areas were all very clean. It was very peaceful both day and night and other campers were friendly. The location is perfect, it's just by the beach, there's a shop across the road and a lovely pub is about 10 minutes walk. Also a short stroll along the front takes you into hunstanton. I will look forward to returning here at the next chance I get 😊

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

Power optional grass RV campsite

Liked: Short walk to the beach, nice walks and nearby pubs. Facilities were good, if you need them.

Disliked: How tightly packed in we were to other motorhomes. Too many crammed in to this site..pitches were not clearly marked with approx 2.5-3 metres between each. Felt like more of a parking space than a pitch. We were parked next to a family with a little boy, our doors were facing each other which meant we shared the very small area between the campers. Because of this we could not sit outside and have our boxer dog tied up out there with us to enjoy the sunny day because we were on top of this family and it wouldn’t have been appropriate. Our dog is friendly but not everyone likes dogs and we wouldn’t want them to feel uncomfortable. I asked the owner Nigel if we could move to the empty pitches right at the front so that we could have a little space for us and with the dog in mind, not be on top of other campers. He said no because we were “too big”.. so I was surprised to see an even bigger motorhome parked in one of those pitches the next day. I appreciate that it was bank holiday, but the customer shouldn’t have to compromise on space and privacy because it’s a busy time. Paid over £100 for 2 nights which is pricey in general so was expecting good things, or at least a pitch to ourselves.

From the manager: Thank you Carly for your review, we are pleased that you enjoyed our great beachside location here on the Norfolk Coast. I am sorry that you found us to be not to your liking with our pitch sizes, we had a great easter bank holiday weekend with lots of happy campers enjoying their time with us by the beach. We did have a busy campsite, we do advertise clearly on your booking hub that during peak periods we will be busy, we are a very sought after campsite due to our close proximity to the beach and great location along the Norfolk Coast Path, we are also dog and campfire friendly and welcome all sizes of tents and vehicles, this makes us even more popular. If you were to visit us outside of peak times, I am sure you would find us more to your liking :)

Route directions

The site is behind the sea defences: watch out as you head towards the sea. The site is the last farm building on the left-hand side of the road. From the A149 at King's Lynn, turn left towards Heacham South Beach (Lamsey Lane). Then, turn left again towards the beach and turn left into the campsite when you can see the sea in front of you (roughly 1000 yards before the beach).

Local attractions

Nature fans rejoice, for there's birdwatching galore around here. Make for the RSPB reserve in Snettisham for flocks of birds around the Wash, or for RSPB Titchwell Marsh (20 minutes' drive) to see avocets, marsh harriers and pink-footed geese around its marshlands, reedbeds and freshwater lagoons. Titchwell has a wide sandy beach to investigate too, where scenery seekers can snap far-reaching views across the Wash. Boating and watersports are easily accessed just down the coast at Hunstanton. The town's also home to the rides of Rainbow Park fairground, and the Sea Life Sanctuary next door where you and curious kids can see seals, penguins, otters and other watery species. Other recommended options include Norfolk Lavender, five minutes' drive away at Caley Mill, and the 12th-century ruins of Castle Rising (15 minutes), one of the biggest and best preserved keeps in England.
