Family-run specifically for families, Norfolk’s Grasmere Caravan Park is a quiet grassy enclave only 10 minutes’ drive – but light years in vibe – from the razzmatazz of east-coast resorts like Great Yarmouth. In fact, the site is 10 minutes’ drive from a lot of places, including wildlife gardens, an amusement park and Ormesby Broad, so you and the kids will never be short of something to do and see. And the list goes on, for there are several pubs, restaurants, takeaways, supermarkets and specialist food shops within 10 minutes by car too, making life on site nice and easy for you, whether you’re self-catering or otherwise. Luckily for excited kids, the beach at Caister-on-Sea is closer still, being five minutes’ stroll away from your tourer pitch, so they can soon be digging castles on the sand. Allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, the pitches are generally hard, well drained and laid with stone or granite chips. Each has its own service point with a water tap, foul water drain and electric hook-up, and there’s a laundry room for keeping on top of chores. So you can relax knowing that your worldly goods are safe, access to the site is via a remote-controlled barrier for caravans, which is operated by staff only. Please note dogs are not permitted.

Local attractions

So, all set for the beach? You have plenty of choice, with the closest being at Caister-on-Sea (five minutes’ walk), where you can stroll or paddle on peaceful sands. Hemsby Beach (15 minutes’ drive) is another quiet option. Still in the bracing air, you can be on the golf course within five minutes by car, or head for Ormesby Broad (10 minutes) for boat jaunts on the water. Younger guests will hopefully love the chance to race about on go-karts and feed lambs at Hirsty’s Family Fun Park, while Joyland amusement park has gentle carousels and themed rides for toddlers. For more high-octane thrill rides, there is plenty to amuse the teens on rollercoasters and waterslides at Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach (all 10 minutes). Animal-mad families might like to watch penguins tumbling around in their pool and spot rays at Sea Life Great Yarmouth (10 minutes). There are big cats and crocs to admire at Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens (15 minutes), and if you hit a rainy day, the pool at the Marina Leisure Centre (10 minutes) is a handy distraction for restless children.

This peaceful, convenient campsite boasts friendly staff and is a short stroll to the beach and local shops. Pitches are level with water/electricity. Clean individual washrooms are a highlight. Some found it a bit dated and noted stadium noise until 10 pm. Great for families and exploring.

Liked A small site but everything I needed.
Toilet and showers were kept very clean. Waking up area.
A short walk to the beautiful sandy beach of Caister where you can walk into Great Yarmouth. And the Caister lifeboat museum. Local butcher, fresh fish and local convenience shop plus independent bakers, fish and take aways.
Great bus service outside campsite with regular buses.
All pitches had electric hook.
Small playground for children.

Liked Owner was very helpful, showing all the facilities. Showers were good and hot. Nice and clean. Pot washing and chemical disposal was good. Nice quiet pitch.
