  • Small level campsite on the edge of Wicken
  • A short walk from Wicken Fen Nature Reserve
  • Toilets, free showers, disabled facilities and free wifi
Ready to get out into the East Anglian countryside? Have a stay at small and level Meadow View Campsite about an hour from London, on the outskirts of the village of Wicken, an easy stroll from the walks of Wicken Fen, and within 10–20 miles of Ely, Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds and feeling clever at Cambridge. And as you might guess from its moniker, this is a rather greenly set site too. As are the site surounds, within easy walking distance of Wicken Fen Nature Reserve (the first ever property acquired by the National Trust way back in 1899, fact fans) and with the Sustrans National Route 11 running alongside the site for easy pedals into Ely. Walking routes around the village are displayed on the site's noticeboard. Meadow View has toilets, free hot showers, disabled facilities, a washing-up area and free wifi. The nearest petrol station and supermarkets are in Soham three miles away, while good pub grub and tipples can be had at Wicken's Maids Head pub overlooking one of the village greens.

What customers say

A peaceful, well-located site with helpful owners. Guests love the level pitches and hook-ups. While clean, some mention dated washrooms and road noise. Great for exploring Cambridgeshire.

Camping pod (no pets)

Liked The campsite is small and right next to main road and Wickens village, the bird chirping was the best part.

Disliked The facilities were average and could be cleaner. There are no nearby walking paths, and the closest supermarket is about 7 miles away.

Liked Great location for our planned weekend adventures.

Disliked - Toilet/shower facilities very tired
- Originally put on a ‘pitch’ which was effectively just a drive way with no space for awning, when spoke to owner he sorted us out but was unaware I had an awning, could do with that sorting out on booking form as a small site for motorhomes.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass campsite

Liked Difficult to find anything we liked

Disliked Poorly maintained toilet and shower facilities, no heating or floor mats, nothing had been cleaned, with two filthy towels hanging over a traffic bollard outside of each door.
The site generally looked neglected and shabby.

Local attractions

The fenland village of Wicken has a twelve-sided smock mill, open to the public and still working to grind flour. The village is also the site of Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve, a wetland habitat of fenland, farmland, marsh, and reedbeds that's home to birds, insects and plants like reed warblers, kingfishers and owls, dragonflies, damselflies and over a thousand species of moth, and fen violets, spearworts and water lilies. The reserve has a visitor centre, small café and several walking trails. Another walk in the area follows the River Lode to Upware, for meals at the splendidly named Five Miles from Anywhere No Hurry Inn, or you could take a bike ride along the river to Ely or along the Lodes Way across open fen countryside to the National Trust-managed Anglesey Abbey. Signposted Sustrans routes also run to Newmarket and Cambridge if you want to pedal further. For towns and cities, Ely, Newmarket, Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge are all under 20 miles from Meadow View Campsite; London is about an hour's train ride away.
